Wheels Input
Hello All, I’m looking into getting new black wheels for my SS. It is a black color car.
My dilemma is if I should powder coat the oem wheels satin or gloss black with red gloss calipers? Or if I should just get a set of aftermarket gloss black wheels? I’m trying to see if anyone out there might have a similar setup or want to chime in and tell me what they think would look best. I’ve searched online but can’t find many pictures of what I’m looking for. |

This is just my opinion but I feel the black wheels fad is played out. Especially now that Kia, Hyundai, Honda, and nearly every SUV have them there is nothing special about them anymore. Now add in the fact that 95% of vehicles with black wheels are not kept clean and everywhere I look are cars that look like poopie. Black is notorious difficult to keep clean. So you see where this is going.
Also there is nothing that looks as sharp as a well polished black car with chrome wheels. Just my $.02

When I ordered my SS almost 12 years ago the optional polished wheels just didn't do it for me. I then installed a set of factory chrome plated wheels on may Summit White Camaro. Just my opinion of course.

I agree with the fact that black is hard to keep clean, but I think it sets off the car in a good way. mine are satin black with red additions. they look great to me and you can see every particle of dirt shows.

I’m with y’all about being overdone, BUT on some cars you just can’t beat it- white or yellow. Just looks perfect .

I personally like the black wheel look, "trendy" or not. If it looks good on your vehicle go with it. Hudson's vehicle looks pretty tough but he might not be allowed to park with the cool kids. LOL! I would also vote for keeping/coating your factory original units (satin for contrast) and not purchasing any aftermarket wheels that will probably be "Made in China". I've never really paid attention to fads but if shapely young women stop wearing the trendy yoga pants I may go into a depression that could possibly require therapy.

I agree on the black wheels, especially for a black car. Wheels are also part of the whole package of a car's look too(striping, color, grill). As long as you're happy with you're car, that's all that matters.
