I had considered it. For me personally, going from my 2LT to a 1SS would mean giving up quite a few creature comforts, good average gas mileage, and monthly finance/insurance costs just to gain a V8. Not entirely worth it for me. Plus, if I were to switch out of my Camaro so soon, it would have to be replaced by something a bit more practical.

Depends on the definition of happy. It's hard to say w/o knowing the numbers in the new deal. Driving will be more enjoyable for the first few weeks months whatever. After that wears off, your still stuck with the payments for 3-7 years. Just be careful not to let a fantasy become a financial burden.
Get a ZL1, you'll for sure be broke, but also happy. It will make more power then you'd even want to daily. The older versions are going for low 30's now. |

Sounds like a great way to lose a shit ton of money in a hurry! It's not like these cars are selling well in the new market, I'd imagine the trade in value on a 2016 1LT to be in the $15k to $17k range. A used 1SS is still over $30k. That's a big hit just to get a V8.

all depends on you and how you drive the car .. you may loss a lot of money in the long run.. ie trade in value, insurance, gas. if financially you can afford it , then i say go for it .. just keep in mind it does get costly in long run. IE: fuel, tires, brakes, insurance, monthly, and etc..
you can keep your 2.0T mod it to where it's faster than stock V8 .. you will end up spending less month trying to switch to v8 at this point.. unless you really just want a V8 than go for it |

I did consider it as well. Tried to trade 2016 1LT RS and got low-balled 3 times with $18k range, while KBB was showing high $20k. Even with super low APR and supplier discount I wasn't able to get anything reasonable from dealerships, especially since M6 SS in DFW area is a hot commodity.
All-in-all, financially it doesn't make any sense. You would have to cover large depreciation cost and increase monthly car/insurance payment. |

The cheap option would be to do what we did back in the day. Can of gas and a match! Lol j/k. We'd hunt down totaled V8's and just convert the car.

That's how I'd do it, just mod til you are faster. Only downside is you lose the warranty so keep some safety money just in case you break something important.

Not exactly what you want to hear, but I traded my 2010 1SS M6 in on my 2016 2.0t, couldn't be happier.
With just typical bolt ons and no tune the best 1/4 mile time I ever got my SS at my local track was 12.84. My 2.0 car with minimal mod $$ investment, I'm at 12.95, and there is still so much more room to grow (cheaply!), plus the gas mileage with the 2.0 is way better. I don't regret trading my 5th gen SS in on the 2.0t Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
