Here's my two cents. ..V8 v6 4cyl... doesn't matter. What does is the car looses 200 lbs. That's the great part..what would be better is a V8 car ls trim or V8 car 2ss trim ..or 4 cyl ss trim or gas miser ls trim ....that's the choice or any combo..make it work with all the models ...if I could get a very light V8 and a very light 4 just might get two one for work and one for every thing else.. add a bumper cover spoiler sunroof power seats 20 speaker stereo , 6000.00 suspension. ...I'll take mine light lean and damn fast.. I don't wanna race dale jr...only if he's at the red light next to me.

So an interesting thought.

2016 Malibu gets BIGGER and loses 300 pounds

2016 Camaro gest smaller and loses 200 pounds

I don't think anyone ever said for sure the 6th gen was going to actually be smaller. Everyone assumes it will be because it is going to a smaller platform. It does not mean that platform could not be massaged to Camaro 5 size or close to it.

And I think the 200 lbs will be in the lower trims. Less composites and aluminum may be used in the base models. I can see an SS or next Z getting more composites and aluminum and drop close to 300 or over the 5th gen.

Unless they're holding something back and it lost more than we thought. Could just be that losing weight wasn't a priority for the last generation Malibu when it was developed.

They did say that that it will be more agile. If one drives a VW R hatch vs a 5th gen 1LE back to back, one will quickly remark how the R is is indeed more "agile", only because of it's smaller size. This simple trait really helps at slower speeds and tight courses when entering turns. Both cars have tight suspension, tight chassis, but at the end of the day, the 1LE will kill the R, on higher speed turns and straights. But as far as driver feedback goes, the R is more tossable and agile which is always a good thing.

I'm betting on a slightly smaller Camaro, even though I have no problems with my present sized 5th Gen 1LE , all things taken into consideration.

Did the Malibu really get bigger? I know the wheelbase is longer, but the car is the same width as before. Not sure about length.

Think it's harder for a performance cars to lose weight. At the end of the day, it needs to feel solid and put up good numbers. I'd be happy with 200 pound loss on a loaded SS.. Or more.

There's nothing here to indicate this would just one particular model's weight savings. Keep in mind that statement about the 5th gen 1LE fun to drive and what their goal was. I think it is a sure bet to get 200lb drop across the line. Also it's not like they are going magically increase the weight difference between V6 and V8 that exists in the current 5th gen.
Not gonna lie. I was super excited for the 6th gen, but when I saw those headers I got extremely excited.

Agility can also have to do with weight.

3700lbs with 450/450 and an 8speed auto would give the mustang all it could handle in the 1320. I'm glad to see the auto cars are getting neutered like the 5th gen. And hopefully those headers are efficient enough that you need not buy new ones unless its an all out build. It would allow money to be spent elsewhere.

The biggest single weight savings is probably from swapping out the mufflers. ;o)

Hmmmm... Doesn't the press release say "at least 200 lbs"? Be nice if they under promise and over deliver. Keep Ford guessing by not being the same old predictable GM. Hey... 470 HP too please!

Well at least 200 means 200 and something and depending on the trim level.

It could mean 200 in the SS and more in the LS/LT. I'm guessing that if there is a 2.0 T, it will certainly weigh less than a current V6 LS/LT. Maybe 300??

We shall soon see. There is that "soon" word again.

I would err on the side of 2xx is the most you are going to save, and the higher trims are going to save you less weight.
