Engine Misfire
Anyone else notice when the LT1 is cold and warming up it has a bit of a misfire?
It goes away after the engine is warmed up. |

Yes, mine does this as well. My LS3 did as well but not as badly.

Not a misfire. Its just the cam lope that you hear at a specific rpm. Mine does that too. So have the other 16's we've had here. That sound is just "Merica" flowing from your exhaust

Nah, definitely a misfire. Whole car shakes, if car is moving it's a noticeable jolt.

the LT1 is known to have a pretty rough idle. I'm not worried.

My LS1 did it. My LS2 did it. Buddies LS3 did it. LT1 does it. It's a large V8 and when it idles at 700 RPM it will move the car a bit. Sit in a large cammed car and you'll be amazed how much the car gets jolted around.

Im not worried, just stated that mine did same as the OP. Like I said my ls3 was the same. It smooths out when warmed up so it doesnt concern me.

Thanks for the responses. I'm relieved that it's a known behavior of these engines.

I think a lot of it is attributed to the DI. My boss' 2013 F-150 has a noticeably rough idle when cold. My car bothered me at first with how bad the idle is when cold, but it is totally fine when warm.

I have noticed it too on the 3 SS's I have been in. Definite misfire! Car can remain totally smooth at idle for 10+ seconds then out of the blue have a noticeable hiccup/jolt. Very easily recognizable as a random misfire by a mechanic or someone who has felt a misfire before. Not sure what the cause is but it is a tad annoying. I personally have only noticed this on low mileage cars on dealer lots, never actually during a test drive.
I'm not experienced enough with direct injection cars, but I can definitely say what I felt was a misfire, not a standard mild rough idle. I had a heavily cammed 4th gen camaro and I know what a lopey idle is vs. a misfire.

Mine can be felt in the car as well when it's cold. It goes away after the car drops RPMs to normal idle. If the car truly had a misfire, the CEL would be on.

Mine does it. Annoying that is for sure.
You can let the car warm up for 2 minutes and as you start to drive you get a random jerk in the car. Doesn't matter what gear you are in. I wasn't sure if it was related to a cold driveline or engine issue.Takes 3 minutes or so of driving for it to go away. Still concerned.

I've had the same thing for my last two trips. Not just a rough idle, not just a few misses while idling, but even a few misses under light acceleration. It's pretty obviously a miss, because you can feel the car hesitate while you're in the middle of accelerating. I've got 3000 miles on the car, and it only just started doing this. It used to idle a little rough when cold, sure, but that wasn't this.
I did notice that I only had about a quarter tank of gas, and I remembered the post where the guy "ran out of gas" with an eighth tank remaining (as confirmed by his fuel gauge and the amount of fuel it took to fill back up). I figured I may have actually had some air in the fuel line causing the miss. Maybe there's an inherent fuel pickup problem in these cars? How much gas do you guys have in the tank when your car is missing? |

The LS1 idle stability in cold ambients is much better than the LT1 I started, but the LS1 also has a less aggressive cam.
