Anyone who pays $50K for a Hyundai is a moron, plain and simple.

Why buy a Mercedes Benz, BMW, or Cadillac when you could have a generic looking Korean piece of trash for the same price??

I would say Hyundai's are over-engineered appliances, Toyota's are under-engineered appliances. The $19k Hyundai Elantra has rear seat heaters, the Sonata turbo has Direct Injection and gets the same gas mileage as an Accord 4-cylinder with 150% the power. Those are just two small examples of over-engineered Hyundai's. But I agree completely with the latter point, going from any of those brands to a Hyundai would be making a step backwards.

Then again check out the Equus, it has NO check engine light and has an Ipad for an owners manual.

Not for anything, but exactly how many of these people will be drag racing their cars? Those times mean nothing to 99% of their intended buyers.

I think the point of the article is that Hyundai is building quite a sleeper motor, and that the big 3 should pay attention. There's been a lot of talk of dropping a small V8 into the Genesis coupe since it debuted, and having driven a few of them, it would be insane with one. Picture LX body Mustangs with the LS3....because that's what it would be like...

Personally, I like what Hyundai is doing, and they are doing it with a small lineup and building quality cars. This is what Chevy SHOULD be doing, and they finally started getting it right just the past couple of years. You can get a performance model in all of Hyundai's cars, and their CUV's are decent vehicles as well.

It may still be a Hyundai, but the reality is that they're in a lot ways closer to Honda in quality than they are Toyota/GM....they still aren't quite there....but they've made such huge strides in the last 10 years..

Fair enough, but when people buy luxury cars, they don't expect to get passed by a Ford Focus on the highway all the time either. Buying a luxury car usually means some kind of adequate performance as well as the luxury.

If you could get a CTS-V for a Camaro price, wouldnt you? Especially if the warranty, quality, and ride was virtually the same? That's not stupid, and it's certainly smart shopping...

Wow, do you think maybe that's a little extreme? Passed by a Focus? Really?

No, not if it's a Hyundai. I've owned imports in the past, but I will never own a Hyundai. I think it's going to take more than a good quarter mile time and a decent warranty to convince the country club folk to leave their BMW's, and Mercedes, and buy a Hyundai. Maybe I'm wrong....I don't hate their cars....really don't care about them. My only point in bringing up the example of quarter mile times, was that I highly doubt that's what a Benz owner looks at when he starts to shop.

Exactly, and just for a point of reference: the base price for a based out E class V6 with 268 HP is over 50k, and you are looking at over 60k for a base V8 model with 382 HP. The 5 series will cost you 45k for a 240hp V6, 50k for the 300 HP turbo 6, and 60k for the V8 with 400 HP.

The CTS starts at around 36k with the 3.0 270 HP V6, the performance with the 304 hp 3.6 will run you right at 40k, while the loaded pPremium will run you 50k, and of course the only way to get a V8 is the CTSV that runs 63k.

The Genesis is 34k for a base V6 with 333hp (around 43800 fully loaded with tech and premium packages), 44500 for the 4.6 V8 with 385, and 46500 for the 429HP R SPec. The 2 V8s come loaded.

THe Hyundai is a hell of a deal and qualitywise is up there with any of the premium brands.
