Where is a good cowl hood when you need it?
I've believe I have done enough searches for a moderate sized cowl, now its time for the question. Don't get me wrong the MPD cowl is good quality, just not my taste. IMO, the lines are too abrupt. Does anyone know of a OEM sized functional cowl hood. I had a 3" Harwood cowl hood on my 96 Z28. It wasn't over the top, and the lines were perfect! The other thing was the ambient engine temps were SIGNIFICANTLY lower, as well as the engine temp. I almost never heard my fans kick on, even during the summer (maybe because of the LT's to pipes dumping at my rear axle? ). Of course when I got pulled over and ticketed because "It sounds like a damn Nascar" I changed it for about 2 months and even then didn't hear the fans much.
Call me a newb for poor search skills if you want, but I need some help. If you know of someone who has made an OEM sized functional cowl, contact info would be appreciated. If you know of someone who can make one, that contact info would also be nice. Thanks, Cody Couple of pics of the harwood cowl that I had on my Z. Mine was red but I don't have any of my pics on my "Iraq laptop" (I bought a cheap dell laptop right before I left with best buy's F*$* It in the Mouth Warranty so I can just trade it in on a good one when I get back). If my parents can find my Z pics, I'll post them up...

The most subtle cowl induction hood out there is the one by Carbon by Design:
And yes, it is also available as plain fiberglass so you can paint it. Then there is the MPD cowl, which unlike yourself, I am head-over-heels for and will be getting it for my car : And VFN Fiberglass is going to make a SUNOCO-style cowl hood: Those are your choices so far. |

Carbon by design looks to be perfect. To each their own on the other ones. I know its not this bad, but the other two are just beginning to start in this direction and it scares me:

Considering what's possibly under the hood of that third-gen, you can bet there is a good reason it has a cowl hood that tall. Either way, I'm certainly glad I could be of help! |

Thanks, that does look good. The other hoods I have seen are all closed off.

What is the weight of that MPD hood? Heavier than stock I imagine?
Still can't find that size in carbon. I want my hood this summer, but I can't bring myself to buy glass when I already have aluminum. Form following function for me is a more aggressive hood that weighs less, not more. Carbon is the only way I see that happening. Am I really the only one that wants to kill 2 birds with 1 stone, so to speak?
