Finally got my test drive...2 weeks after buying her

Due to the ridiculous cold and snow every other day over a 3 week period, I was unable to bring my new to me 2020 M6 ZL1 home, much less even test drive her...until yesterday.

I had the dealer swap out the Goodyear’s for a set of Continental Extreme Contact Sports, because it will be my DD 8 months of the year. Driving her home yesterday in the low 40’s the grip was surprisingly solid for the temperature.

Initial impressions are; What a car! That engine sound is so addictive. Im not a “gray car” guy, but when I saw this Shadow Gray Metallic in person, I was blown away. I’m coming off a Torch Red M7 C7 Z06 Vert, and the characteristics of the engine are identical (obviously) BUT the supercharger whine is far more noticeable in ZL1, which I love. Yes it’s bigger, and heavier but it is quite agile for its size. I’ve driven gen 6’s as rentals, and knew that rear visibility was an issue with the top up, but I think the Z06 was worse. To be honest, I think the rear visibility is fine and the rear view mirror camera was a fair stop gap (more on that later). Combined with the blind spot warning (not available on the Corvette) I didn’t have any issues. I’m a big guy at 6’4” - 260 and the interior is roomy and the Ricardo seats are incredibly comfortable.

A few observations/complaints (and they are minor), 1. it needs a front facing camera (standard on Z06) as it would really help with that low chin, 2. Needs a home for a phone. The armrest is to small, and with all this torque the lack of a secure spot for a phone is a problem, and the rear seat wireless charger will not accommodate my iPhone 12 Max, 3. No Homelink. Really? So I bought a $30 garage door opener on Amazon which is now clipped to the visor, 4. The rear facing camera mirror is a little disorientating. The field of focus is totally different and I will likely only use it if I need it backing up.

What a car. Just wow. It’s been 18 years since I’ve owned a Camaro and this car is an amazing return... now just need some warmer weather to enjoy the top down!

You'll get use to the rearview camera mirror. I felt the same with our C8 when we got it, it was my first experience with a rearview camera mirror and it made me a little nauseous on the drive home from the dealership. I bought my ZL1 2 months after the C8 and I got adjusted to the mirror in a few days. Now, I wouldn't have it any other way. The field of view is adjustable which helps too, I use the widest field of view.

Awesome and congratulations. Glad I didn’t get the 12 Max and decided on the smaller one. I have to admit that I can’t recall my phone getting thrown off the charging pad yet and I’m impressed thinking about it now.
It is kind of a shame there is no home link and not a lot of storage space for smaller stuff but oh well.
The cars performance and fun factor more than make up for it.

It had 6,300 miles on her when I picked it up, and a clean service history, so done already.

The C7 on the lift is my friends C7 Grand Sport that I’m storing for the winter. I sold my Z06 late last Summer due to skyrocketing values... and I was heading into Spinal Fusion surgery and didn’t know if driving this kind of car was in the cards. Gratefully all went well.

Good to know. I’ll give it another go. It is a cool feature.

Agree about the storage and Homelink. Minor stuff.

Check all your fluids anyway ! A lot of dealerships say they change oil, etc and don't, my ZL1 was one of them. Mine was like this with 2700 miles. 6'4 260 I understand, were the same size, a Corvette was just to tight !

Congratulations !

She’s a beautiful beast.

My XS Max doesn’t fit either. There are mounts you can get, so might want to look into those.

There is also a thread on here where a guy modified the console for more room.

Recaro seats. Ricardo is a cheap knockoff you buy off amazon.

ZL1 drop top with a M6 is probably my summer dream.
