0w 40 european formula

I noticed I purchased the mobil 1 0w40 european formula instead of the esp 0w 40 from mobil 1. Can you use the european formula on the SS or does it have to be specifially ESP?

Before the dexos2 Mobil 1 was available, I used the Motul X-Clean. It's a Euro Spec oil. However, it also is dexos2, so...

IIRC, 'euro spec' oils are designed for ultra-long change intervals (12k-15k miles) and are suitable for operation on high-speed roadways (autobahn, etc).

Will it work? I’m sure it will work just fine. Do you want to use it? Maybe not.

A few years ago a friend had the differential fail on his 5th Gen ZL1. There was a TSB out for the failure. He still had to provide dated receipts to GM to prove that he had followed the maintenance schedule with specified lubricant before GM would replace it under warranty.

Your power train warranty requires dexos certified oil. If you’re doing your own oil changes then you’ll want to keep receipts for the oil and filter to prove you’re following the maintenance schedule. If there is an engine warranty issue then you may be required to provide the receipts. Technically GM could deny the warranty repair if you show them that you didn’t use the required oil. I suggest that you use the recommended oil and either return your current oil or use it in a different vehicle. I wouldn’t set myself up for a fight with GM if your car turns out to have a problem.

I have been using Amsoil Improved Euro 5w-40 with no problems.
It is now engineered to be used for Dexo 2 vehicles.

Run 5-w30 synthetic. I run dexos1 gen 2 owners manual says it is ok to use this as well.

I use Motul 8100 X-Clean 5W40 exclusively.
It is Dexos2 Certified (You can pull up the list from the Dexos site). Upon request, I also got from Motul the original Dexos2 certificate for this oil.

As mentioned throughout this thread (and so many similar ones here), as long as you use Dexos officially certified fluids, GM's warranty should be honored.

European Mobil 1 ESP 0W-40 is dexos2 (GM-LL-A-025 ja GM-B-LL-025).
So shouldn’t this be OK to use in 6th Gen ZL1’s and satisfy warranty requirements of using the correct oil?

Looking at their web site it appears that they recently released a single product that meets all the standards. That should do it for you. Hopefully that means it will be more widely available and less expensive.

They recommend two types of oil for the MY19 2SS
Mobil 1 ESP X3 0W-40
Mobil 1 Newer vehicle formula 5W-30
Worth noting,
If you do not drive your vehicle regularly with the 5W-30 you will notice the RASP sound found in the TSB from GMH.
I use the 0W-40 as I don't drive my car as a daily the RASP from the oil pump is greatly reduced.
