Tire question

Hey guys, fairly new zl1 owner here. Bought it pre-owned earlier this summer. Time for new tires but upon some research I see most Zl1s have 305s on the rear and 285s up front.

My front tires are 285/30zr20. But my rear tires are 335/25zr20..
Pretty sure the rims are standard, but does anyone else have 335s on the rear? Fitment seems fine. But if I was to order 305s would they fit on the rim? Or did the previous owner swap for larger wheels?

stock rears are 11" and all ZL1s (non-1LE) come with 305/30/20 on rear

I haven't seen IRL or on the forum anyone with that size on the rear, that is an OE wheel probably not any larger in width but likely needed the harness on the body panel to be relocated, it's a known rub point with tires >305 ish
Still assuming an OE 11" wheel that tire is out of spec width wise for the wheel but not to say it's bad or hazardous to do so.

Thanks for the info! It's wearing pretty badly on the inner tread so i wonder if it has anything to do with this.

A 335 tire is designed for a 12" width, that a giant tire on the rear of the 11" You could get away with a 315, maybe a 325. I'd pull the driver's side rear tire off and check the inner wheel well liner for wear from the tire. If so, I'd swap the tires ASAP and check the wiring harness located there. If you search about it there are many posts about the situation.

Wearing badly on both tires or just the drivers side?

If you don't mind, can you upload a pic of what it looks like from behind. I'm curious to see how much those tires poke if any.

Probably just tire design like how Michelins appear a bit more narrow than Goodyears. Those tires seem narrow for the spec vs. the wheel, not really 30mm more than the OEM goodyears, which are pretty square in profile to begin with. Wheels look painted/powder coated.

If your LR inside wheel tub isn't rubbed (harness moved?) then it's probably fine. Inside wear is almost always alignment (toe/camber). No matter which tire you go with, get it aligned. If you're gonna drop a grand or two on new tires, you'll want it to be right.

Might be worth having the alignment checked. That tire is too wide for the stock 11" wheel but it should not cause excessive wear just on the inside of the tires, it would typically be the inside and outside due to the tire being pinched on the wheel.

Yeaa got the alignment booked when they put new tires on. I ordered 305s assuming the rim really is oem. Guess I'll find out this weekend😬.
