Now that you mention it, I guess it is. Must do it subconsciously. Guess I need to drive it more often

Thankfully others try this stuff, I'm pretty darn curious but don't think I would try just to find out what happens
With a completely dead battery, I'm guessing the parking brake will not release. |

Yeah, if it's set... you're right. You'd need to at least connect some form of 12V that could operate that to release before even THINKING about moving the car. And if the battery is actually dead, it might be simplest to disconnect the battery completely, connect a jump pack or cables, and use the external power to be able to release the brake...

Not far. Like a foot or 2. Getting the car rolling fast enough to bump start is more of the challenge than needing it roll a great distance. The car start right when you dump the clutch.

In order to start, you need something to turn the motor. Typically, that's the starter. With bump-start, you're able to turn the motor a different way. But... You still need all of the various electronics to be working so that the motor will actually run. And before you can get to that point, you have to be able to have enough energy being generated to at least put the car in an "on" position (which, btw, would also unlock the steering column)... If you have a small charge in the battery to where you can get the modules and such powered, unlock the column, etc. - then I think you're right that it shouldn't take much. |
