I could believe how fast it bid up to that price.

Not a surprise that he bought the first production number! He has plenty of money and can buy anything and everything!

The initial 001 car by Chevrolet has been sold in the last four or five auctions and Rick is Always thebuyer. The money is for charity so everybody bumps it up.. With 300 dealerships to his name , a few racing teams and a ton of other things, 3 million is nothing for him. Nice guy, met him a couple times… He Came very close to Going to the slammer in the Honda allocation trials of the 1980s.

I remember watching Dave Ressler 12 years ago bidding on the Vin #001 ZR1. Before the bidding started, everyone knew it would be his, absolutely no question. Dave bid $1,000,000.00 and won it which was huge at the time. Man I just wonder if he was still around how much further Hendricks and him would've pushed this 2020's price? Sure miss watching Dave at these auctions as he brought excitement and flare every time he showed up.

If only it didn't go to charity but to Chevrolet directly... It could have help them to pay for the loss on every base model C8 that they will lose money with...

The interesting part is for all of these there are 2 VIN #1s. There is the pre production VIN #1 and then they cycle a number in the VIN and it goes to a production VIN. So it isn't the first car off the line, it's the first salable car off the line. Fun fact, GM built several hundred Gen5 Camaros with the pre production VINs and sold them. So whoever bought the mythical VIN #1 for the Camaro really got like the 400th salable unit built.

Yes because GM has said that there will be an increase in the prices for the 2021 Corvette!

Last production C7 just for comparison....$2.7 million....

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a2...vette-auction/

These new C8 Corvettes should provide some interesting news to follow when they hit the streets. If all the 2020 C8s are spoken for, they should hold up a little better in resale value for a few years, especially if the 2021s are going to see a significant price bump. Gotta be patient for a few years if you expect to get any kind of deal on new or slightly used. Good luck.

I suspect that prices of vehicles creep up constantly. So, I'm not entirely sure how much of a price bump would warrant any real concern, so long as it's within reason (ie: inflation and a slight market adjustment).

Besides that, this money went to charity and while that's a great thing, it's also a tax write off for Rick Hendrick. Be that as it may, I suspect the C8 will have no issues with it's sales. If anything, especially for the first couple of years, it may be difficult to keep them in stock if dealers don't get dumb and start doing markups.

That would be Mr Hendrick. I met him in Oshawa when he piked up his car that day.

Safe assumption with any car is that the price will increase the following year. Why should anyone expect the C8 to be different?

Of all the charity cars at these auctions, the collectable vins probably are closer to what the bid would be even if it were not attached to a charity. The bidder still really wants the car. Other charity cars get re-donated immediately or the bidders really aren't that interested in the car itself. Not so with these VIN collectables.

Rumor has it Corvette claims to be already losing money with the C8's MSRP. Next year's price increases will likely be far above what has happened in the past for slight market adustments and inflation. We shall see.
