LMAO, the ZL1 front didnt get a redesign for a reason, same reason as with the 5th Gen, and it has nothing to do with the internet not liking the '19 SS.

Keep trying though.

Mustangs (and Challengers) sell more because they appeal more to the non-enthusiasts who don't browse car forums, not because a disputably "ugly" refresh on the front of ONLY the SS models somehow killed sales for the entire lineup.

Look at production numbers from the best-selling year of the 5th gen, 2014. https://gmauthority.com/blog/2014/10...rare-is-yours/

Combined production for 1LT, 2LS, 1LT, 2LT was 71,481. Combined production for ALL OTHERS, including ZL1 and Z28 was 26,151. For 2017, the same production breakdown is 49,629 - 33,717.

So production (no doubt driven by sales) has taken a nose dive on non-SS models for the 6th gens.

Also- 2019 sales are roughly on pace with 2018, although they were already dropping, BEFORE the "ugly" refresh. That's why they tried to shake things up.

https://gmauthority.com/blog/gm/chev...sales-numbers/

It seems there is a bit of an internet echo chamber that keeps perpetuating the disputable OPINION that the '19 front end is unattractive, and trying to turn it into some sort of consensus or fact. Don't like it? Fine. But it didn't kill Camaro's sales numbers.

Yup. Unsurprisingly this is primarily driven by some 16-18 owners, hmmmm....I wonder why LOL.

In fact there are still new 18's on some local lots where the 19s have sold out.

JROC pretty much nailed it. And it was almost 100% internet based at that.
I would really be surprised if you had said any different. People in person are more polite than on the forums. I've never been to a show where people would come up and say your car looks like crap. So you can't base it off comments at an event. If I saw you at a show I would be polite and say "nice car" and move on but, really I dislike the new front end.

Most of the cars listed in your comments were release with great reviews on style and performance. The 2019 SS not only took a beating from the forums but almost all magazines and reviewers bashed it. That is why GM changed it for 2020.

Not a fan of the '19 front on the base SS, but the 1LE is a different animal. Just looks different with the black hood and mirrors, matches the aggressive look of the car.

With that said, I'd be curious to see what it looks like with the middle bar painted body color, but the flow tie left in place. Surprised no one has done it yet.

Love my front end

Had a '17 SS for 2 years, now driving a '19 1LE - both silver. I much prefer the look of the '19 front end, especially with the black hood, mirrors, wheels, spoiler.

I agree with most of what you said, however the 19 grill being changed a year later doesn't speak well of its general reception and may be more than just the forum echo chamber.

Honestly, GM a company with their massive commercial resources changed it for a reason.

They went back to the familiar design. That says it all.

The 2020 Panel is now available to order. I ordered mine last week, should be in by the end of this week hopefully.
I plan on wrapping mine in glossy black too match the original 2019 piece then remove the front bumper and install it.
Then my 2019 will be completely bowtie delete

One thing to consider is the 2019 is a one year look no matter how ugly or good looking it seems to be! Reminds me of how the auto companies would change the look every year or two especially the front and rear parts of the cars and trucks and you could tell the years apart from each other by looking at them.

I recently had a 19 and my 20 parked next to each other.

The change isnt major imo if they just color coded the bumper portion. Aside I really don't like the flow tie placements on the 19. I was pretty instantly glad I got a 20. However if I had a 19 I would not have an issue with it. Still a beautiful car

Got the 2020 panel wrapped and installed on my 2019 . I like not having any bowties at all on the front (sorry no installed pics yet, it been raining almost everyday here for 2 weeks)
But here is a pic of the two together.
the 2020 panel I wrapped in 3M Gloss Black 2080 vinyl. It came in a grey primer.

Shoot, i was hoping to see a blackened out bumper with the bowtie up. I don't think anyone has done that other than a photoshop.

I hadn't really thought of just painting the middle section on a 19. I may not ignore them now when looking as that sounds like and option and there should be good deals on them. I wonder how it would look painted, but keeping the flow tie in the same place? I hear its supposed to help with getting air to the engine too.
