Switching out suede Steering Wheel and Shift knob

I have a 2SS 1LE. Don’t like or want the suede leather steering wheel or shift knob/boot.

I had the dealer order normal leather wrapped for both. The wheel came for an auto with shift paddles and the shift knob came suede(description was apparently just leather wrapped)

I’m being charged restocking fee which is upsetting since I did not tell them what part to order.

The parts department is claiming it’s very difficult to determine how to determine the parts I want. So they are hesitant to try again and get the wrong part.

Any suggestions on how to determine the correct part numbers.

I want normal leather steering wheel, shift knob, boot for a 2020 2SS M6

I would find another dealer or just order what you need from one of the forum sponsors. They shouldn't charge you a restocking fee for their mistake. That's bullshit.

I’d suggest OP to get a picture of the exact steering wheel and knob they want and when ordering to make sure that picture is attached to the email or whatever way to show the company or dealership

Sounds like you have an incompetent dealer.

I did the same thing as you are trying to do thru my dealer after I got my car 2 years ago. I had no issues and it went smoothly.

Try a different dealer and talk to the Service Manager about the restocking fee.

Totally agree. You didn't specify part numbers, only made a general request. If they ordered the wrong part to meet your needs, that's on them.

If you bought the car from them, there shouldn't even be an issue making this right and get your salesperson involved to straighten it out.

I just found a 2ss on autotrader & used the VIN from that to talk to my parts dept. I didn't order the wheel yet, but I'm very confident I got the right part number. I'll grab it later today for you.

Edit: Just found it: 84209515. This wheel will accommodate for emergency braking alert. If your 2ss has PDR, you may need a different part number, since I don't believe you have emergency braking alert if you have PDR.

Funny, I miss my leather wheel and shifter from my 17 SS. Not into the alacantara either.

The automatic wheel and manual wheels are the same except for the paddles where one says rev match and other says +/-. The paddles are interchangeable, you can just unscrew them and take your manual ones and put them on it will work

Agree with the above sentiments about the alcantara steering wheel cover and shift knob. Great when used with gloves.. terrible with sweaty hands. I’m looking to swap mine out too

I believe they have to drop the transmission out to replace the shift knob. While I'm not a fan of the Alcantara, I would pass on the change for that reason.

You have it backwards... The shift knob has to be removed in order to drop the transmission. It's completely accessible from the cabin.

Four snap-in clip points on the leather where it meets up with the trim ring then a single T20 torx bolt that holds the shift knob to the shift lever in the transmission. Should take 15 minutes to change if you've never done it before.

I agree with others here, if they provided the part numbers based off your request you shouldn’t be obligated to pay a restocking fee.

I will agree with your dealer that there are a lot of part numbers for the wheels and shift knobs because of changes in years, options, and stitch colors. When I have something with this many variations I find a car on their lot or at another dealership and use that VIN so it helps narrow down an order mistake.
