Active Exhaust Help

Hi there,

I have a 2016 camaro SS and my active exhaust is faulty. It’s staying open all the time but I notice during driving it’ll close for some parts but once I come back to an idle, its open.

I have removed the fuse before but have put it back on previous times and have had no issues. This time when I put it back in, its faulty. I tried a different fuse but still no fix. What do I do or has anyone had this issue?

Thanks

This sounds like normal operation. What are you saying is faulty?

In track setting, the NPP will close the valves when cruising (1.5k to 2k RPM) to prevent droning of the exhaust and will open them when you go to accelerate from cruising or you slow down to idle/stopped. This is also true for sport mode.

Tour keeps the valves closed until you've exceeded 3k RPM.

Stealth is closed at all times.

Pulling the fuse keeps the valves open at all times.

The valves are open when I’m idling, they don’t close. The difference between open and closed is pretty substantial and even if I sit in park and shuffle through the drive modes the exhaust note doesn’t change pitch at all. Before it would be much quieter then open.

So when you switch to stealth when parked, the valves remain open?

If you go into accessory mode (press and hold ignition button with foot off the brake) you can go through the setting and you can physically test the valves with the car off.

I would try doing this and switch from track to stealth, go behind the car and look into the outer tips of the exhaust and confirm that the valves are closed in stealth. If they aren't, you probably should take it to a dealer to see whether it's the valves or the actuators themselves.

Which fuse did you pull? I know Lithias already bright this up but check to see what mode your exhaust is set to in the infotainment system (Auto, stealth, tour, sport, track). Or what it could be is the actual valve control module is unplugged or broken. Taking a shot in the dark. Hope I was some help.

Yeah I tried all of that. Going to the dealers gonna be expensive so I’m trying to avoid that. But I pulled it out and drove, the valves definitely didn’t close at all but once I put them the fuse back in, it closed only during those 2-3K rpm ranges where it usually does but when I come back to a stop, they’re open again. Not sure what that’s all about

And depending in what mode you are in, that is completely normal operation.

For track and sport, that is normal operation.

For Tour or Stealth they should remain closed at stop/idle.

Let’s just say my local dealer is horrible. I’ll prob end up going to one if I can’t fix it but was hoping someone had a solution.

But yeah they won’t fully close even if I select stealth.
