Tuned with new cam and headers... 94 octane...

So I just got my car back Wednesday and just had a baby cam from BTR and kooks LT installed.. tuned and running good. I put 94 octane in it yesterday night and took it to the racetrack... at idle it caused a surge every now and again and it didn’t do it before.. would idle fine then surge to 1-1500 rpm... is this normal with higher octane gas or should I take it back to have the tune looked at? Of need be I’ll try to get a video of it today doing it and post.

I doubt it has anything to with the octane. Tune could need touched up or it could just be the nature of the cam depending on how much overlap it has.

I’ll take it to them tomorrow and hopefully they can look at it real quick... in my are they are pretty busy .. hopefully they can figure it out... didn’t happen until I put 94 so hopefully it’s just tune and not gas lol..

It's either the tune or cam or both. Mine surges. I hate it.

As long as the tuner got the MAF tables rescaled and dialed in and the PE tables are dialed in then the tune should be pretty solid. The one thing that will cause issues on these tunes is the variable cam timing tables, my tuner had to put in some extra time on mine.

Auto's dont tend to see or feel the surge as the converter absorbs the curge, the M6 cars see it more often since they are direct drive once the clutch is fully out.

i use to surge like CRAZY, ended up being a tuning issue, my new tuner has it dialed in PERFECTLY.

Surging Idle is a tuning issue and has nothing to do with octane.

Idle control is most tuners weakest skill, because they tune from the top down.

From when I was a kid I always tuned engines from Idle up, and have great Idle control, driveability, fuel economy and peak power and track performance.

Ted.

Mine bounces up and down...sometimes to far down and the car stalls. It's great when you roll into an intersection to make a left turn and your car quits....

You are not lying Ted. I have had multiple runs at tuning and remote tuning and working with you is so much different than other remote Tuners I worked with...surging, running lean, dying at stop lights...I haven’t experienced any of those challenges with what we are doing. Really a great experience.

OP, was your tune done on the dyno only or did it also include some street driving. That said, I do not think its unusual to need a tweak to the tune.

I have an issue when I turn left, it kinda stalls but doesn’t die.. I go to give it gas and nothing happens until I let off and complete the turn and then all is well.. but rarely ever happens.

He did street driving for a couple of days. The car seems to be fine, but I noticed as I’m driving, as long as I don’t hve any music on, I can hear the car slightly rev up a little bit and it’s rythmic... I’m going to drive to Alva, ok tomorrow for a car show and I’ll see if I can capture it and post on here.
