How to get a good deal on a factory order

Here is my situation:
  • I want a near entry level car with LT1 V8, manual, convertible
  • I want to pick the color and all the details
  • Everything else I can be very flexible on:
    • I can be very patient (as long as I get the right car at the right price eventually)
    • I don't need to trade anything in
    • I'm located in Southern California but I'd buy the car from any US dealer if the price and car are right
    • I'll use a broker if that helps
What is the best method to pull this off?
Does it matter what time of year I order?
What should I realistically expect to pay? Any chance of under sticker?

(sorry if this is a repeat question, only the Enhanced by Google search was working and it did not help me - too many matches. Advanced search gave me a blank screen every time. Not zero matches, a blank screen.)

you go to the dealer, you build the car, you leave deposit.

Unless you have a preferred local dealer or they aren't helpful, you could try to order directly from Joe here on the forum. He ships across the country, has a very good chance of actually being able to allocate a car and is extremely helpful: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=415251

If you want to get a Camaro with a V8 for under MSRP at the moment, you will probably need to know someone at the dealership or in GM that can get you a discount. The problem you will run across is, new cars are extremely scarce and used cars of 1 to 3 (sometimes even 4) years old are just as expensive on a dealership's lot as a new version of the car would normally be. Because of this, most dealerships know that getting a new car at MSRP is a good deal at the moment.

If you are not taking advantage of the inflated prices dealers are paying for used cars right now by trading one in for your purchase, then buying a new car now is a bad idea. If saving money is your biggest priority, then wait until the chip shortage has run its course and prices return to more normal levels. However, if paying MSRP for a Camaro you want is ok, then pull the trigger. This site is full of information that is very useful on how to order a car from GM as well as what to expect to put down for a deposit, and what other things to look out for when doing a factory order.

I'd consider getting a zl1 at MSRP a great deal, especially in this market which looks like it'll continue for the foreseeable future.

If you're doing a factory order there aren't many deals or incentives you can get. Them ordering a car for you at cost is the deal, unless you know someone who will personally enter an employee discount code on your build.

Other than that, you'd need a dealer to have a special on which usually they don't have for camaros. Things like truck month, or employee pricing events etc for example, but they usually don't include performance cars.

edit -- I'm not sure about your local laws but where I am, on my contract it states "car must be sold for MSRP" which is a mandated law here

I'd start here but remember that transporting the car is going to run you $1500ish in my prior experience so I'd give joe a try and then see your local dealer to see where the deal is. what I have read on here, doubtful you will beat joe's price and more importantly his service during the sale but good to at least shop. he would be my first call if we were looking for a new 2022.

as mentioned, ANY amount below msrp in this market is going to be a good deal....

Yeah, it's sure a difficult time to buy a Camaro or even predict how long it takes to get one, my earlier (smooth) purchasing experience certainly doesn't apply. I hope OP can find a good deal one way or another.

I’d recommend Joe as well. No games and solid communication. Some people order from him, fly there and drive home. A bit of an adventure + you get some of those break in miles in. I ordered my car from the late Becky D (Joe’s counter part). Great experience.

Good luck.

If you are able to place an order at MSRP, that is a very good deal at present. I’m locked in at Invoice, but only because I have a prior relationship with the dealer and placed my order before things got so ugly.

If you can wait a year maybe it will turn around, but the Camaro potentially only has 1-2 years left unless GM changes their mind and extend it another year(s).

I think you mean: get a price from Joe then if local guys get within $1,500 out the door then buy local, right?

Yes I will keep my eye on things and try to wait it out. Not in a hurry. Thanks.
