I'm in the 50-59 range also. I am vaccinated and encourage others to be. If I were below 40, or planned to have children, I might view it differently.

That’s a fair and good point although not all of that 600,000 has gotten sick yet and some percentage of them will (especially if not vaccinated). Those could end up in the hospital or dead so the “chance” is somewhere in between the two numbers presented.

Like you, I chose to be vaccinated but don’t feel it should be mandated.

All of the 600,000 (50-59) have been at risk at the same time as those that have gotten sick. They either did, or did not but they were in the pool.

Many more of those 600,000 did contract COVID but were not sick enough to bother getting tested to become a confirmed documented case. WI shows case numbers that are only 13% of the population. The actual number must be double or triple that so the odds are even more in your favor.

The initial caution with COVID made sense. Within three months it was already clear that this wasn't a "Bird Box" (movie) pandemic. I resumed normal life as soon as I could in August 2020 and have never felt at risk because I understood the data and am very fit. Its become a narrative that some don't want to let go of IMO.

Honest answer, who knows. The media makes COVID-19 out to be the world ending disease. People who have had it rank from, “I didn’t know I had it” to reading an obituary about them and everything in between. The sensationalism of it all is what is the most messed up. We hear only about the people dying and how many people are getting sick, but NEVER about how many people are recovering and back to normal life afterwards or how many people didn’t even have “that bad” of cases. If it bleeds it leads is the mantra of the media and people doing well doesn’t sell headlines.

After a few years of studying what the effects are on people and if there’s any long term issues from having COVID I think we will get an idea of whether or not this was something that is more or less worse than a “standard flu”. However, at this point, like the scientists always say, “there’s inconclusive results to support or disprove a hypothesis”.

Standard? NO. "Standardish"? Yes.

If it were like Ebola, or something similar, than I'd say the freak out would be warranted.

A 98%+ survival rate is really good. Find a casino with those odds and see how many people would be in line...

Conversely, what people don't understand is that eventually you will get it. You WILL be infected by it. (unless you live on a permanently isolated island).

You can't wear a N95/surgical mask 24/7. You can't wash enough. Transmission can be slowed down perhaps, but it can't be stopped.

A couple of observations:

This Covid thing had man’s hand in its creation. Don’t expect it to behave quite like one God made. Now or going forward.

The Bubonic Plague made sporadic, regional comebacks over the course of 300 years! Don’t assume this ends on anyone’s timeline.

From personal experience, I have had a worse flu bout than my Covid bout. The biggest difference for me was the loss of taste and smell. My symptoms lasted about 3 days with only registering one day of a slight fever. The loss of taste and smell was a little longer at about 7 days and that was actually the worse part of it.

Also from my personal experience, I did have loss of smell and taste ,even to this day some things are not the same ..like lemon juice is not as strong to me as it used to be .Also my fever got to 105 and the chills were the worse I think ever had .that was back in December.

Feeling in hands is less too and i drop a lot of stuff. Doc thinks some light nerve damage maybe. Probably not becoming a diamond cutter was a good career move.
