Yeah, I figure it can't hurt for the $20 total in parts... Cable was $19 to my door and the $1 hex head bolt from the hardware store. Cheap insurance

I just installed my Grnd cable yesterday to the Sound Tube bracket. The extra ground should be good for another 10 hp.

I got my 4ga. Cable cut off the roll at 24 Inches at Advance Auto for about 5 or 6 dollars, then spent about another $3 or 4 for the copper tips. I spent about $10 and 15min of time.😁

Keep in mind if ordering online there is a huge difference between 4GA and 4/0, 4/0 is rated for 500+ amps and is garden hose like. Seeing as its intention is to buck up the OEM ground 6 - 4GA (4 being the larger diameter) would be more than adequate.

I got 4Ga. and matching 4 Ga. copper tips.

Added an extra ground to mine today.
Ran from sound tube mount to the negative post near the headlight
Used 1/0 cable and plated copper ends.

Thanks to the OP and the rest who have added info to this thread. I bought a 2016 SS last year and had some major slow start problems. Eventually it left me stranded. I bought a new battery and it’s better for now. I knew it was just a matter of time before it came back though.

I got a 27” 0 gauge cable from batterycablesusa and hooked it up today to the sound tube screw similar to TP2SS. I’m hoping this will help some. I’ll check back in after a while with an update.

Ever since getting kooks 2" headers, I have been having this hot start issue. Got a new starter after I cooked the first one, and had the shop install a thermal blanket and a custom fabbed aluminum heat shield. It helped, but it still felt like it lugged out a bit after getting gas or sitting a bit. Saw this thread and stuck one of those 1/0 gauge wires from the boat wire place onto my sound tube mount as it was removed with mods done. The difference was noticable even on cold starts. Thanks for sharing this knowledge, it sure is saving me some serious pucker factor on warm starts after getting gas!

That looks stock. Nice job!
Bet that cable weighs almost as much as the sound tube!

I drove my car last week, it was 86 degrees came home parked in my garage for 8 minutes and it started right up. I am 100% certain that adding the ground cable to my SS has solved the slow start when hot.

For the record, the 5Gen 19" ground wire does not reach from the sound tube mount to the negative post by the headlight.

It will fit perfectly to the water pump.

It appears that most (if not all) the posts on this thread are for the V8. Any tips for the V6? I have occasional scary hot starts and guess I need to do this. Also curious as to why everyone is stopping at the ground wire. That’s only half of the circuit after all. Seems like the hot wire to the starter is just as important.
