Front Tire Size on 1SS Camaro (MRR M017 Wheels)

All,

First the Background:

I'm looking for a little assistance selecting the right tire size for wider wheels on my 1SS. I plan to use the MRR M017 wheels (same dimensions as the 1LE wheel) and want to avoid as many headaches as possible. From looking on the forums, I've seen that It's best to keep the OD of the front and rear tires within 1 inch of each other to avoid confusing the stabilitrak/traction control, and that moving the wiring harness under the driver-side rear wheel liner is a good idea. Without clearance considerations, I would like to use a 275/35/20 setup for the front, and a 315/30/20 setup for the rear, as this would keep the tire OD roughly the same as stock, and also have the front OD slightly larger than the rears (also, same as stock). However, MRR/Phastek recommends 275/30 tires for the front (which results in the front OD being roughly 0.7 inches smaller than the rear, quite a bit different than stock).

The car is not lowered, will likely never be lowered, and does not have magnetic ride control. Not sure if it matters, but I plan to run MP4S tires.

Now the questions:

1. Has anyone had issues (mainly clearance/rubbing) running 275/35/20 tires up front using a 1LE (or similar sized) wheel?
2. Has anyone had any issues (clearance, traction control, etc.) running 275/30/20 tires up front?
3. The standard 1le/zl1 front tire is 285/30/20. Is there a reason this would not be recommended for a 1SS?

Thanks in advance!

I went with a dws06 275/35/20 square on the m017 23mm offset wheels. It works fine, speedometer is always very close to gps. I’ve never had any traction control issues but I’ve also never really driven very hard with this set since they are for daily driving. https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showp...8&postcount=60

I'm running 275/35/20 (front) and 315/30/20 (rear) PS4S tires with MRR M017 wheels, with 5mm spacers in the rear strictly for a bit of poke (with the infamous driver side body wire harness already relocated).

Zero issues with this setup, traction is great, no CEL, no weirdness whatsoever. The front tires are a good fit in this size, although 275 is on the narrower side for a 10" wheel.

The reason I didn't go with 285/30/20 in the front (á la 1LE) is the extra sidewall that is welcome here in NJ for a street setup, plus the relatively significant difference from the standard SS. I'm sure the 1LE has its own stabilitrak, ediff and traction control programming to handle its tire heights that a standard SS will not.

Glad to see folks have good results with 275/35s up front. Definitely eases my mind.

This is pretty much my exact line of reasoning for wanting the 275/35s. I doubt the roads up here in Albany are much better, and I think keeping tire diameters close to stock will result in less confusion for the nannies when they are on.

Wanted to follow up with an update to provide an additional data point for anyone who might see this thread in the future. I went ahead and got the 275/35/20s up front, 315/30/20s in back and so far no rubbing at all (couple days of spirited driving, no track use yet). I have not yet moved the driver side wiring harness, but i'll be watching it like a hawk. Seems like most folks who have had issues rubbing have gone with 35 aspect ratio tires in the back, so I've got my fingers crossed. I'm not sure i could have gone any bigger in the front before hitting the struts, so i'm glad they fit.

Thanks for the follow up for future guys.... Just ordered the 017s. Want to use the stock rears 275 35 20s F1s on my SS upfront and going with 305 35 20 MT SSs for the rear. Wire harness already relocated.

I also went to 305/30R20 in the rear and moved my original rears (285/35R20) to the fronts since they were still like new. They work great. I did do the harness move on the drivers rear but haven't had any issues with tire rubbing through the liner at all. I think that is mostly for a wider 35 series tire on the rear.

A 275/35/20 is taller than a 315/30/20. Not sure why you'd want taller tires up front. Why wouldn't you just go with SS 1LE tire sizes: 285/30/20 front and 305/30/20 rear? You can run 275s on front 10" wheels, but the height is either going to be shorter or taller (30 or 35) than you really want. There's no reason not to use 285s.

Because this is a non-1LE, and these sizes I suggested are a very close match to the original setup (245/40 F and 275/35 R) while still a good fit for the wider wheels.

The 1LE front tire size is very different (1" shorter) while the rear is not, so this may work just fine on a non-1LE car, but I haven't tried it.

Lots of people have done 1LE sizes on a non-1LE SS, and the 1LE is just an SS with a handling package. So you can do it too. There's no question this is the right combo to get.

I had the M017 10f/11r wheels with Goodyear SC3 285/30 and 305/30 tires on my regular SS and did not see any warning lights show up. Yes the speedometer read a little higher as expected, but no error lights that I saw. The data in the computer for a 1LE does have a shorter front tire size in the undriven tire section than the normal SS tune, so guess that it's possible that some situation might be able to freak out the Stabilitrack in this swap (1LE tires on non-1LE).

I went with 5th gen ZL1 wheels, and standard 1LE tire sizes (275/30 and 305/30)

Fits perfectly. On that note for future readers, I have MRC on my 2SS
