Camaro cluster swap to full digital

Okay guys don‘t hate me for my dumbass ideas…

It recently came to my eyes that the cadi guys are swapping CTS-V clusters into ATS-V‘s.

(i have absolutely no clue about dash electronics)

would it be possible to swap a full digital dash from a 2016+ CTS-V into a Camaro? (i know the V badges and whatnot, i only wanna know if it would even be possible in the first place)

i mean the ATS is on the same platform than the Camaro and if they can swap a CTS-V cluster into an ATS it SHOULD be possible to put it in a Camaro right?

IMO chevy just missed the digital cluster trend completely in the Camaro compared to Dodge (which can even display performance gauges in the center console screen) and even luxury brand cadi…

i can‘t be the first one to think about a full digital cluster in my Camaro….

You can try talking to Chris White at https://www.whiteautoandmedia.com, but the software must be significantly different to drive a digital cluster, so I'm not sure even if you have a 2019+ that's on already the new platform.

Now if you have a 2018, it's probably impossible unless someone can actually get access to the entire source code for both platforms, likely along with some encryption keys, and is willing to invest a ton of software engineering time into adapting the new cluster, then fending off the army of gm lawyers if/when they find out about it...

Oh well

You know what, sometimes when I'm in a dreamy mood, I think of how admirable it would be of gm to release old platform source code after those model years go out of powertrain warranty. This would allow owners to mod everything in there for real, not just tune a subset of parameters that HPT managed to reverse engineer.

I promise I'll make a valiant attempt at such a conversion if that ever happens.

May just work.. grab part off ebay or car-parts.com and give it a go. may just pull data from CAN or whatever it's called bus and populate the gauges w proper PID/data values.

Worst part.. may be VIN locked.. or needs programing of the VIN to work and your VIN probably not on the list.

Beyond that - does it physically fit! Time to find junkyard w late models cadillac and camaro and do some on site experimentation. May be worth admission fee.

i got a 2018 zl1 1le and i‘m from switzerland (car is from the US though). so you think the 2016 CTS-V is on the standard of the 2019+ camaro? i mean chevy is questionable at times but that would be next level…

i could run through the cadi forums to see if they can do it „plug and play“. i remember to have seen a mention about a VIN, think it head something to do with displaying the proper mileage and stuff but can‘t remember from the top of my head.

but i think the connectors and all that should be compatible as Cadi is basically a Chevy.

another thing might be the cluster of the new C8, but i think that wouldn’t work as it‘s way too new. so the possibility might be higher for it to work on same-year models.

i‘m gonna wait a bit more, maybe someone who has done something similar or has had the same idea will reply to this post.

I have my doubts on if it will physically fit on our cars, the shape looks a bit different.

I know nothing of the software side, but I can just imagine the amount of pain...

Do you have the GM part numbers?

At first I would check pictures of both gauges to check:

- the physical size
- the electrical connectors

Afterwards you can continue with the next steps.

But keep in mind, even if it is possible it will be very expensive. Especially the software topic is paid by hours.

As written...ask here for the software topic:
