Camaro Consumer Statistics

I'm not sure if anybody watched the extra 20-ish seconds of the 2019 Camaro reveal that came on after the main reveal session, but they mentioned consumer statistics in it. I know we speculate them on this site often between us and the Mustangs, but we may have just gotten an official one.

Call it fake news or a GM-supplied fact, but "75% of Camaro owners are male, and the average age is 52".

I don't necessarily think the average age is that old I'm 39 and I've been driving Camaros for over 10 years and this is my third Camaro.

You would think the turbo 4-cylinder would have brought in people much younger than me.

One thing that could be holding a lot of younger people back is the price of entry into these cars. Which may not seem like a lot to an older guy who has got his house paid off and nothing but time on his hands and money to burn

But to a young man with a family and a mortgage a lot of these cars are definitely off the table.

That doesn't necessarily mean these guys won't be buying these cars in the future

What GM definitely needs to bring down that average age because that's why their sales are low you need to have a vehicle that people of all ages can get into

Yeah I'm not sure if 52 is correct either. I'm 22 and pay a mortgage. Of my friend group, one other guy has a 2010 Camaro SS, two have 2013 Mustang GTs, there's a Golf R, a WRX, and an S3. So people my age definitely like go-fast cars. But we are engineers and have a bit more appreciation for them than other people our age.

mTab data aligns with this, and 52 is actually on the younger side for a new vehicle. Average age for buyers of the Prius, for example, (at least back in 2015) was 62.

The purchaser doesn't mean who drives the car...

Judging from the age group on this site, I'd say they are right on money with the average age. I'm 43, but there are quite a few on here that's 60+. Which is cool actually.

Trust me the average 22 year old is not paying a mortgage or buying a new Camaro SS.

I understand. 22 is 30 years off of the average though. 30 years in the other direction is 82. Hats off to any 82 year old owners, but I feel like there are a ton more 22-32 year olds than there are 72-82 year olds, as well as more 32-42 year olds than 62-72 year olds. Which means there must be a high concentration of owners from 52-62 keeping that average at 52.

I guess my 73 years skews the curve but some of us older guys like sports cars also. No Prius for me.

Wow, hit the nail with me, 51, male. I'm an engineer as well, if that means anything...

Hahahaha I work for a popular food distribution company in their warehouse I make about 90K a year but I did that living with my grandparents rent free for 4 years and saved up my money wisely so now today I own a nice home and 2 amazing cars plus a daily driver. Basically I just saved my money wisely. Also my company is nationwide and always hiring 👍
