there is a few companies selling rebuilt td04 turbos for the ATS that will bolt right up to the camaro. I have one from turboBay and it made a big difference in power and holding power for another 1000rpms

I know it's been awhile but has there been any update on this turbo upgrade?

nope...... but why get old waiting . there's already many options out there. at least 3 companies that I could think of .... I believe turbo bay is only $895,rpm motorsports $1295 and Vermonts tuning bigger turbo for like $1795 I think.. im sure by the end of the year there will be many more

I prefer to wait because I know how good the Mitsubishi unit will be. Turbobay, RPM, and VT are all re-wheeled stock turbos. That's it. No changes to the housings or porting. VT does machine the front cover to accept the larger wheel, but GOUGE you to death for it. MHI's upgraded turbo will probably be priced similarly to VT, with no core charge. RPM's 'upgraded' turbo still uses a stock exhaust wheel. You can buy the wheels yourself, take it to a local turbo rebuilder and probably spend around $500 if you really want to save some coin.

RPM's upgrade is $1,199; VT's upgrade is $1,399. I'm gonna agree with ChicagoTommy here, and say wait for the Mitsubishi upgrade to come out. They make the stock turbos in the first place, so seeing what is essentially an OEM upgrade could in theory be better than a cheaper aftermarket re-wheeling of the stock turbo.

I'll wait til my wallet is fully recovered and some more comparisons are out for them all. Still not one of these companies has dropped their turbo into a car and posted 1/4 mile or dyno charts for them.

Why did this start typing in bold?? LOL
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries makes turbos, Mitusbishi Motors makes cars. It's an important difference. Your cousin's Mirage probably had an MHI turbo on it.

It's not a theory. MHI has offered upgraded turbos before. Have you looked into their offering for the EVO X yet? That should give you a good idea how the LTG version will perform.

There are a few VT and Turbobay builds out there running around. Doesn't matter one bit if it's on a Camaro or an ATS, they will still perform the exact same.

i had a turbobay turbo last summer. performed pretty well. It gave it a broader power band instead of falling off around 5500 it lasted closer to 7000

I think the turbo bay probably has the most extensive amount of work done to it for a reworked factory turbo for the price they charge... Here is an excerpt from The original invoice for the turbo I have from them

I'd say well worth it compared to some of the other rewheeled turbos out there that don't Have any machine work done. You will find a couple places are very vague about what is done to their turbos. Stay away from those. And if the turbine wheel is stock and all they've done is change the compressor wheel, stay away from those too.

When I spoke on the phone with Matt at TurboBay I was very impressed with all that he does to the units he upgrades, very much worth the money if you are not wanted go crazy with your motor but still want more usable power!
