MBRP Axle back (on V6) to?
I know this is another exhaust thread....but I searched and searched the V6 engine and exhaust section.....Has anyone just got tired of the drone and went from the MBRP to something else? If so what did you go to and is it way better with no drone?
The drone at 1800 RPM and 60 MPH on the MBRP is just too much for me and I am at 1800 RPM a lot on my long work commute, back roads 55-60 MPH. I read and read the exhaust threads. Flow Master American Thunder some say has drone, others do not. The MRT systems seems to also have drone. The best systems seem to be Borla axle backs. Is there truly no drone and it is worth the extra $$? I am also considering an entire CAT back- I see MRT has one. Has anyone gone with a full CAT back and is satisfied and it also has no drone? And is it worth going with one to eliminate the "crushed" section? I am willing to pay good money for a really good system that will have no drone at all. Thanks for the help.....

The Borla in the video sounds raspy to me at the upper end of the RPM's. Same as with the MBRP I have on.
Is there a system that is not as raspy at the top end?

MRT is not raspy at all. Though you will get drone in certain rpm bands (not cruising though).
they're also on the louder end of the spectrum so expect police attention. |

Most systems are going to drone in that RPM range it's a fact of life, some mitigate it better than others. if you have or had a manual I'd tell you to downshift 1 gear and raise the RPM but that's a factor of trying to run down the street @ ~1800rpm, it's just not a real friendly RPM range to deal with in the higher gears.

I'll get a V8 when I get my classic car- a vintage Camaro or Nova. 327, 350, 396 or 454. That I will drive to and from car shows and short distances. In the mean time my commute is 100 miles a day round trip and I'll stick with my 33 MPG v6 Camaro (that runs on 87 octane) and my 40 MPG GTI. Even though gas is cheap now it still adds up when you commute 100 miles a day.
I think the V6 Camaros sound good with the factory NPP exhaust. Mine did not come with it and the factory non NPP muffler was defective- rattling baffles inside- and out of warranty- so I had to go aftermarket when I got a replacement muffler.

So which would have less drone- Borla S or Atak?
I like the sound of the stock NPP- which my car did not originally have. Which Borla sounds more like that? My car had the stock muffler- and it was defective- had a very had rattle inside it. It was out of warranty so I could not bring it to the dealer. I replaced it with the MPRB.

I have the convertible so my options were limited with the cross bracing. I went with the MRT V2 Catback. Drone between 1800 and 2000. With the M6 I just downshift and it's gone. I haven't ridden in any other Gen6's so I don't know how it compares.

when I had my camaro ls, I had a corsa catback. Got complememnted on the sound all the time. No drone, not raspy at all. Nice deep tones lower in the rpm range, and screamed up top. V6's sound great with a proper cat back.

Did you discuss the borla with someone that indicated it wouldn't fit the convertible? I was planning on a borla, but also have a convertible. I haven't seen anything indicating it will not fit.

I'm pretty sure the axlebacks fit after the extra bracing on the convertible.
