on a set of snow tires, the only thing limiting a camaro (vs any other rwd vehicle) would be ground clearance. on ice there is nothing to use outside of a studded tire.

and a pro tip for those of you driving miss daisy on slick roads, in the way of a truck: move.

very plain and simple. just move over and let the truck around. they have exponentially more traction in every condition except straight ice, and even then are able to do what no other cars can do if speeds are kept low enough.

My father taught me that if you are not sure if the road is frozen and/or icy (At night black top) look at the tires of the vehicles in front of you. If you see the road spray coming off the tires it's generally above freezing but if the road appears wet and there is no road spray, by all means... Slow the ef down! Cause that sh*t is frozen!

I think this depends on the definition of "truck" and the location matters as well.

Pickups can easily fall outside of what you're describing in areas where they do not frequently get snow as they are more likely to NOT be 4x4 and could well be running on offroad tires or non-M&S because conditions don't commonly warrant a tire that will have good grip in snow.

Daily drove my 4th Gen year round for years in MI, a good set of snow tires is all you need around here. Never got stuck or spun, just gotta be gentle with the throttle.

Took first place in RWD class at an ice race a few years ago even! Don’t have pics of my 4th Gen on ice but I do have some from the SS.

I thought about snow tires what snow tires do you recommend?

I've heard from several people snow tires not all season make a pretty big difference.

-Actual- snows will make a big difference. My daughter had a Civic that, on its own, was decent in the snow. I put a set of Blizzak's on it on separate rims (easy to swap them on / off) and it was a different car when the white stuff was on the ground!

I’ve had really good experience with Bridgestone Blizzaks. I had Blizzak WS80s on the SS and the newer WS90 on the Cruze I daily right now. My wife’s Tahoe has the DM-V2 and it’s unstoppable in the snow. On the 4th Gen I had General Altimax Arctic, which were a bit cheaper but still performed pretty well. I also had a set of a Nokian Hakkapellitas at one point, which are excellent but fairly pricy.

I had a set of Firestone Winterforce a few years ago which were garbage; definitely skip those.

Ive been very pleased with the Alpin PA4 winter performance tire on my car, I don't need a studless snow/ice when I've really only got no more than 7 days of the season with snow on the ground. But an A/S wasn't quite capable enough. This is the second season on the PA4.

Ive run the XI3 studless and they were great those days with fresh snow but every other day in the winter season that I only need cold and/or wet capability they absolutely sucked to drive, sucked every bit of fun or performance out of the car.

In 02 I bought a brand new camaro and by winter I had it lowered 1.5 inches 3500 stall and drag radials and drove it the snow that year! I live in Indiana it was epic lmao
I’ve always had a 4wd back up vehicle since then

This should give hope to all of our northern brothers and sisters....although I suspect some of you heathens have already started celebrating Spring's arrival. I think for Lent maybe I'll give up driving my Camaro...

Supposed to be in the 40's over the weekend and both days rain. I hope they are right and we get enough rain to wash the salt off the roads. If we do, I'll go to my storage unit and grab the car. Extended forecast is still cooler temps, but as long as the salt is off the roads and no snow in the forecast, it will be time to grab the Camaro. I have All Season tires, so I don't care about the cooler temps. The only real snow left around here is the piles from plowing or areas that don't see a lot of sunlight. Spring is coming... . I love this time of the year. Getting the car back out and the Harley out again... It's like getting new todays every spring.

Life’s all about choices. I could be sitting in freezing cold New Jersey with a rusty car where i was born. But I’m living in sunny Southern California with a non-rusty car.
