ZL1 - NON-E Wheel Cleaning

I have zero interest in changing out the pads so leave that at the door.

I have zero problem cleaning them with a cloth but I am looking for a "quicker" yet safe solution to cleaning the wheels

Any opinion on this? Another product?

I had something similar when I had my LT with the 4 Piston front, it worked really well for about 3/4 of the first wheel.

The dust gets gummed up on it, need some type of filter to scrub against (like the 2 bucket wash method) I think for ideal outcome

I just use my Turtle Wax one step car wash and wax on the wheels after the rest of the car is washed and rinsed. The ZL1 wheels have some tough to reach spots; I use a thin sponge to get behind the spokes, and since those don't get everything, I follow up with my pinky fingers (in rubber gloves).

It's an intimate experience!

I currently do the "weave the cloth method" FUN! not.

I bought this one for the lugnuts on my 1LE wheels,, and if I had to cope with the myriad ZL1 spokes, it would come in even more handy. Similar to what you linked, but angled, which helps with the backside.

I hose rinse my car then use a foamer from pressure washer to put really thick foam soap layer on entire car and wheels and let it soak in (I do not pressure rinse/spray the car of course) Then after bucket washing car with microfiber mits etc, I use a basic long-handle soft bristle plastic wheel brush with soap on my wheels and go over each one in a couple of passes on spokes and around outside edge, and then I filtered-hose rinse the whole car and wheels and here's the key for me...

I don't worry about the wheels getting perfectly clean and shiny, I don't put much effort into scrubbing nooks and crannies, I never wax wheels. They're just wheels to me and on my ZLE they're satin black (which helps hide dirt and dust), but IMO dust looks ok and shows you're driving the car hard.

Yes Fran those wheels are a pain in the butt to clean! When I do clean mine which is not very often, I need to find an easier way to do it.

To clean the spokes and outer area, I use a brush like this. Works great on my ZL1 wheels. Super fast and easy.

Of course to clean the barrels, you'll need a different brush.

Use a good power washer with Dove soap, and if you
Don’t want to do this every fill up, change pads!
I use EBC reds, after break in, much improvement!

I actually use these in combination with a dedicated wash mitt.

https://www.amazon.com/Boars-Hair-Ul...zcF9hdGY&psc=1

Then I use turtle wax graphene spray to give them a little resistance to the future brake dust. This allows washing the dust off in the future to be a bit easier. Then the next few times I wash the car I just use wheel cleaner and my pressure washer( 2000 PSI with 45 degree tip).

I have one of the few electric pressure washers from Greenworks that actually has the PSI advertised. Works much better than the ones you can find on Amazon. Unless they started selling Greenworks recently.

I've been using foaming window cleaner on mine after every drive. If I keep the car I'm swapping the pads....

Skip it for three reasons. 1) It's too big in diameter to get behind the calipers and between the narrow spokes, 2) it's too stiff and coarse and might swirl the paint, and 3) the handle and brush are too short to reach the entire wheel barrel (front or back).

I have a set of wheel woolies, which are only used on the barrels. The skinny wooly brush is needed to get behind the calipers and the fat elsewhere. $50 is a lot of money for cleaning barrels, but if you want to clean these deep barrels relatively easily and quickly on the ground, they are hard to beat. I'm not worried about swirls in the barrels.

I use a Chemical Guys Gerbil brush for the spokes and front grille. The gerbil brush is small enough and soft enough that it can go where needed and not scratch anything.

I use one of these detail brushes for the lug nuts.

For coatings, all my wheels are ceramic coated (Gtechniq Crystal Serum Black) and hydrophobic coated (Gtechniq EXO v3). I use a custom mix of Carpro Reload, Ech20 and distilled water as a quick detailer on the car and wheels. Hydrophobic coatings will reduce the amount of brake dust that collects on the wheels, as well as make them much easier to clean. You do not want a greasy residue from detail spray on the wheels or it will attract more dust, not less.

For wash soap, Adams Car Shampoo and Carpro Reset are both good, neutral-pH cleaners that are excellent at lifting dirt and road oils/grease off the paint while maintaining high lubricity to mitigate swirling. Full disclosure: I also swapped pads to Powerstop Z26.
