Manual transmission shift times

Manufacturers love to brag about how quickly their auto transmissions shift. Question:
Does anyone know how long someone good with a manual takes to shift gears? (I know everyone is different, but an estimate)
Anyone know how long NLS takes?
Anyone know how much, if any, time NLS shaves off a quarter mile run?

i’ve noticed i can beat nls causing it to grind, most noticeably on 2-3 and 3-4. if i slow shift and wait for the burble, it’s fine. something i’ve been looking into. how to fix it so i can drive the car without having to granny shift.

The couple of times I've been able to overcome muscle memory from 25 years of manual transmissions that I've made NLS work I was blown away by the speed of it, literally, the speed.

i also imagine the heavy ass factory clutch plays a role in shift times, as well.

When the tuners started adding this function to the Coyote Mustangs the "rule of thumb" was .1sec per shift was saved on time. Most saw a .2-.3 improvement on a 1/4 mile pass.

However some things may improve or get worse with NLS.

IE - centrifugal or turbo cars can keep RPM up where they make more boost. So in my car going from 2-3 and 3-4, it helps keep me in boost with my s/c. However when using it from 1-2 and since it keeps me in boost I can really spin hard in 2nd (even with D/Rs at the track), which ends up hurting my times lol.

Its a great function - but you need to practice it and get used to it.

If you are having issues with the shifts, shift it harder. Tremecs are known to not like being shifted lazy, they like to be shifted deliberately. That and use the Rev Match, it does help.

I'm actually a REAL quick shifter, I've gotten several compliments. But I don't really see how it is humanly possible to shift faster than NLS manually.
I'm NA and only making about 600 hp. Using NLS actually has less spin going into second for me.

I've actually never put time into NLS because I really enjoy shifting, but after using it a few times I can see myself using it when a tenth really matters.

Again, thanks for the info.

Btw- I don't think I'd be able manual 1-2 and then NLS 2-3. I think my legs would get very confused. So props on being able to pull that off.

how do you use NLS? Is it just a specific technique that forces it to happen? do you stab the clutch?

In my car (2018 SS 1LE) all you do is shift without lifting off the gas.
I'm always in track mode, don't know if that matters.

Ok - so you use the clutch normally then. I don't drag race anymore, not sure when I would use this - but curious to try it sometime.

I used to do almost that on a 3rd gen w/ TKO500 trans - I would just lift about 1/3 of the way as I stabbed the clutch - it worked rather well.

Oh - I get it, the computer just caps the revs at 6400rpm. that's a nice feature. heck - I would even use that on the road course - why not.

The way I used to do it I would just shift fast enough before the motor would catch the rev limiter - but I would be running a rev limiter pretty close to where I'd want to shift anyway just in case - like 6500 on a 6000 shift kind of thing - pretty much never hit it. But I did lift just a tiny bit off the floor - not a full lift. This seems much easier to do.

I've only used NLS on my car a couple times to try it out and I was mostly impressed by the smoothness over the speed.

I could see it being potentially advantageous on a road course where you needed to shift when you had some steering input and wanted minimal upsetting of the chassis.
