Trunk weight capacity
I'm trying to get my car ready to be tuned for e85, but the closest station is 3 hours from me, in Vegas. Would anyone have any clue how much weight we can put in our trunk before the hardboard floor gives out? I'm trying to bring home 20 gallons worth, but having issues finding space. I thought I could just buy a drum, but that adds $250 for freight, so that's out of the queation

Well E-85 weighs about 6.6 lbs per gallon so you are talking about putting around 132 lbs in the trunk plus the weigh of the containers. I don't think weigh will be as much of a problem as the bulk size of the containers and getting 20 gallons to fit in the trunk. Plus I'd be uncomfortable travelling 3 hours with that much combustible fuel riding along in the trunk - not safely contained in a proper fuel tank.

I have a few 5 gallon jugs used for jetski or motorcycles, so I could get them to fit, but I would have to lay them down. I agree, pretty risky, but I need it for a good tune. That may be just a little too much for that little cover to handle, dang. Back to the drawing board.

This. Definitely scratch the multiple tanks of E85 in the trunk idea...

The only place where you can get e85 is 3 hours from where you are?
Then why do you even want to do the conversion???

I’d try to work out a deal with a local gas station. Maybe if you can get a few performance enthusiasts to agree to buy E85 from this gas station, they would consider stocking it for you.

A tank of E in my car will last a week. If you consumed the same, your two drums would last you a little over a month. That should be well within the shelf life of the E and you can post up some good stories about a month of corn fed goodness and fun. I don’t know what laws are in place to transport 220 gallons of E85 in a pickup, but if it applicable, your trip would have a better ROE (Return on E-vestment)!

they would have to buy a tank and pump. you would need more then a few. most stations dont make money on it. They couldnt even make money on it by our local drag strip.

So I can use e85 when I go out of town to a drag strip. Usually can get some around them, and I dont want to pay for another tune, trying to get it all in one shot. I tried the gas station thing here, no luck, they just dont want anything to do with it. I contacted ignite to buy a barrel, but the freight is $250 minimum, which , unless I'm buying I'm a huge bulk amount, it's not worth it. Maybe I can rent a truck, that's not a bad idea. I'm actually familiar with 55 drums and pumping gas, that's no big deal. I'm not positive, but I dont think it is legal to fill a drum up in the back of a truck. If not, that sounds like the plan!
