First track day - FTD

Disclaimer - I've got "some" previous race experience.

First time on NOLA Motorsports' 2.75 mile track. First time with my 17 2SS. It's 100% stock, even down to the 9-month-old Goodyear tires and stock brake pads.

Drove with several Z06s in my session, and a GT350. Unfortunately, I don't think that any of them really wanted to run hard, as I ended up passing nearly everyone, and even lapped one poor guy in a Vette (20 min sessions). I was especially looking forward to racing the GT350, but he wasn't driving hard.

For comparison, my best was a 2:00.3, with many in the 2:00-2:01 range. The track has rental Mustang FR500C racecars. They're on Nitto RE11s. These are the 420hp vairants, but are gutted/caged racecars. They typically run 1:58-2:04, depending on the driver.

One thing I was surprised at - the HUD was VERY helpful. I didn't look at it often, but it was nice to be able to glance at it mid-corner to see if I was pulling 1+ G or not. Helped me figure out if I was going as fast as I could. It also helped with analyzing lines mid-race (why did I come out of that turn 5mph faster that time?). With a black race surface, even in full sun, I could see the display fairly easily.

All in all, a good day.

Oh, one last thing. I'd love to know what my MPG was. I got there with 5/8 tank of gas. After just 2 20-min sessions, I was down to fumes. By the time I got to a gas station, I ended up putting 19.2 gal in the car (19 gal tank).

BTW, does anyone know of a good program to flip a video upside-down? I have an el-cheapo GoPro knockoff. The only way to get it attached to the windshield was upside-down. And now I can't get it flipped.

Freemake will do it and it's pretty easy.

VideoLAN will as well, but it's less user friendly.

On Windows, I think Movie Maker might.

If you're going to upload to YouTube, the Creator Studio will do that (along with many other tasks) as well under Enhancements.

Which group or organization ran the track day? Were you in the beginner group?

It was put on by the track itself. Technically, it was a "Track Day Heavy". Unlimited speeds, passing only on straights.

It was the first time that I've been racing since having a pretty bad wreck back in 2012 (kart racing, I was uninjured, but the other guy was injured badly.)

Thanks - I'll see if I can get Freemake to do it.

Fantastic times. I need to get back out and do some more laps at NOLA. My fastest lap right now is a 2:08 but that was my second time on the track. I've run it a few more times but 1 was a different configuration, and the second was in a beginner group with heavy traffic. I am hoping I can get down around the 2:00 mark.

Those are great times, for sure. Anything under 2 minutes and you are running in the hot shoe class. Running the same setup as you are, my best is a 2:05 in a NASA event.

Most of the NASA instructors run in the 1:50-1:55 times.

I typically average between 6.5 and 8.2 MPG in 4 - 20 minute sessions. The 93 octane real gas is usually around ~$3 per gallon at the track. I usually try to time things to fill-up on the Friday afternoon tech inspection, so I am ready for the start of things on Saturday morning.
