2016 SS hydro planing
I bought this car with 536 miles on it in Jan of 18. The car now has 6500 miles. It's pretty much been driven on nice days and garage kept. I've never even spun the tires on this car (which I know is a crime in itself) but I drove it to work tonight in the rain and thought I was going to die. This car may very well hydroplane worse than my 5.0 Mustang did with drag slicks. I couldn't believe how slow I had to drive to keep my ass unpuckered. Salesman toldd me when I bought it that it had the "summer only" tires on it but he didn't mention summer and dry..

Yes, indeed the GY RF's make for a slip and slide ride in the rain. I know on the roads I drive on a regular basis where they will pond with standing water. I then drive accordingly in those spots.

Best thing you can do for all your cars is get a good set of All Season tires if you plan on being caught out in the rain.

It’s even worse for us ZL1 owners with Goodyear F1s in the rain! They will really make your ass pucker! You just have to remember to slow down when it’s raining.

The stock goodyears will try to kill you in the rain.
Get some MPS4s. 99% of the performance with none of the wet pucker factor. |

Stocks are garbage in the rain or cold weather. It'll get you from point A to B but it's definitely not confidence inspiring and you really gotta take it easy which sucks.
Alternatively switch it out for a set of better summers like Michelins or for a set of AS UHP tires. If you go the all season route you'll lose a bit of traction and handling in spirited driving but it's a tradeoff. |

I know this has been brought up before but I thought maybe it was being exaggerated a little bit. It's worse than I've read..lol |

I go out and buy an 18 A10 ZL1, one problem was, dry ground 50mph hit and the car would veer to the left. OK, I need to figure this crap out. THEN I got caught in the rain and I almost bought the F***ing guard rail! Now I'm like something is REALLY WRONG here. long story short, my alignment from the factory was really bad. Now the car seems more stable in the rain now. Go get your alignment checked if you are hydroplaning.

You look like you have the same setup as me. Im in Ohio too (Cincinnati) and when I first got my car earlier this year it scared the shit out of me in the rain. I've gotten used to the shitty Goodyear tires but when we get really heavy rain in shorts burst like today it can get sketchy. Like others have said you may want to invest in a good set of all seasons or just stick to surface streets and go slow when it gets sloppy out. Good luck.

I had the exact same experience in a downpour, had to slow down to 30-40 in the right lane and ride with slow ass trucks and the blinkers on. Switched to Pilot Sport 4S and that cured the problem right there, along with a definite noise and ride quality improvement.

Yeah Bobby my ZL1 seems to track well on the roads but the tread on the GY Supercar tires doesn’t do that well in the rain. The alignment is okay! Guess it’s just the nature of the beast! Will do some research when the GYs wear out on what tires to buy! Planning on getting some more miles though before I have to buy new tires.
