Anyways, a few weeks ago, the wife and I picked up a new metallic grey 2018 GMC Terrain SLT that is nearly loaded out (missing the "Driver Alert 2" package). I have to say...with the 19" wheels in the grey its pretty sharp.

Where I am going with this, is we ended up getting the 1.5l turbo engine. Yes, I wanted the 2.0, considering it has a lot more HP and TQ than the 1.5 with its 170HP and 200TQ. But now that I've driven the 1.5 several times (with wife and 2 kids in two) I really think it will be just fine, especially for my wife considering she doesn't care as much about performance. I was worried I'd have to wring it out at 3K or 4K rpm just to hold highway speeds on moderate hills, but that is just not the case. The new 9 speed transmission has been great (knock on wood) and really keeps the engine in the meat of its TQ range, which is at a lower rpm. It will happily cruise up a hill at 70mph at 2,220 or so rpm. I'm no longer bothered that we "settled" on the 1.5l.

If the Cadillac is built on the same platform, using the 9 speed, that 230HP (and likely 260+TQ) engine will do fine, and might even have a little spunk to it. Will it be "fast". No, but it will be perfectly fine.
Oh I'm sure it'll be peppy enough with 'just' 235 hp (I've heard that ~30 years ago, that would have been considered to be a lot of power). Odds are it will weigh somewhere around 3000 lbs, if its going to be smaller than the XT5 but bigger than the Trax/Encore. So 235 hp in that size vehicle is plenty.

But its very strange that its the same engine across the board. I expected to see the 275 hp version for the top trim, either as standard or an option. Maybe that's being reserved for the XT4 Vsport, lol.

I drove the Equinox with the 1.5L turbo and found it noticeably underpowered compared to the 1.5L turbo in the CR-V and the 2.5L in the RAV4. All are pretty close on paper, but it was noticeable. I wanted to try the 2.0L turbo, but the interior and layout were clearly behind the other two to pursue it further. I wanted to try the new Terrain as I liked the refresh from the outside, but the wife didn’t like it. A week after I bought my 2018 CR-V I took my dad to pick out a new car and we drove the Buick Envision and LaCrosse. I tried to get him to try the Terrain so I could ride in it, but the salesman steered him away from it knowing my dad would prefer the Buick. That he’s not driving the 2018 Envision we tried to buy is another story already stated in this thread.

I’d rather them not waste the potential on Cadillac.

that doesn't surprise me with a Cadillac DPI racing team. what better way to get attention on Cadillac than a mid-engined halo car with elements from the DPI car

'it'll be different this time. we will call it... the CTR!' is what i imagine was said in the meeting to greenlight a redo. maybe it'll work this time around since the Corvette isn't being protected anymore (in terms of performance compared to other GM models).

Yup.

It should be: CT4/CT4-V, CT5/CT5-V, CT6, Escala, XT4, XT5, XT6, Escalade/Escalade ESV.

I thought I'd point out the 1.5 in the 2018 Equinox uses a six speed, while the 1.5 in the Terrain uses the new 9 speed. I'm guessing that's why we are happy with our Terrain and the 1.5.
