Just a piece of clear plastic you can find at any craft store or in my case, a broken picture frame. Turns out the gap between the bezel and the switch was wide enough to accommodate wedging it in. A heat gun helped with the curvature

Sorry guys , I got a little discouraged, my 3D printers not the best and the contour of the silver piece isn’t easy to replicate. Brianw36 got the right idea. I’m trying to find a way to find different hinge points so I can add a spring that way it closes back down on its own. I’ll start working on it again and see what I can come up with. Sorry for holding you guys up, I know a lot of you liked the idea and id love to make it work for everyone.

Hey, just came across this thread. My Yorkie jumps across the seats and gets it sometimes. Not cool. I've been looking for something like this! Does anyone have a file of the drawing I can get? Thanks in advance!

Alright guys, here’s my latest prototype. I’ve been trying to find ways to hinge the flap and this is what I came up with. The top part has a window that allows you to press the traction control button and it also serves as the base that holds the whole thing in place via small strips of 3M tape. The bottom flap is what you’ll lift to access the mode button.
This is not the final product as I’m focusing more on functionality than looks at the moment that’s why it’s red. Once I’m satisfied with the function I’ll tweak the shape a bit so it looks more pleasing.

That being said, what do you guys think?
Advice and opinions appreciated!

Jdelgado92,
That looks promising.
Have you considered not having the flap? Instead you could have two windows, one for traction control and one for mode.

Looks great, I'll take one in black, i'm tired of hitting that damn switch on track.

Pretty cool.

I think you should have some raised letters on the flap that could be painted white if on black or black if on red that say something like:

PHOTON
TORPEDO

But you know what, I don't even need that piece as I never hit it by accident. In fact I've heard that it is bad to rest your arm on the shifter has it puts pressure on the synchro while driving... Not sure if it is true but I have learned to rest my hands elsewhere. That way I'm not even close to the mode button.

Just looks like the file I sent you just make sure you don't take all the credit for a model that I sent you!

I like this idea. But the cutout needs to be sized correctly so that it looks like an OEM piece (you have to be able to see the entire content of what's silkscreened on). Going with a single cutout could work as well since it would effectively create a raise edge all around and have zero moving parts.

Glad I'm not the only one that hits this button by accident on track. Has anyone gone as far as to pull the console and splice in a toggle switch on the TC and Mode connections, maybe tuck them up under the dash?

Thats really cool. I have been working on a design for this also since I bought a 3D printer for Christmas.
I will come back to this thread and post a pic later.
