Question LT5 vs LT4 (differences and similarities)

Hey all, would you guys be so kind as to educate me in the differences and similarities between the LT5 (ZR1) and LT4 (ZL1/Z06).

And you guys can skip the fact that the blower is different lmao.

I'm just wondering how different the motors really are aside from that.

You’ve answered your own question by asking not to mention the blower size difference.

I would imagine same basic architecture, just beefed up internals to handle more boost...but then again lt4 short block is already pretty beefy so idk what additionally was done for lt5

Bigger blower, better internals, port injection.

I have a feeling the ZL1 1LE already outlapped the Z06 on the 'ring even if GM won't admit to it. Given that the ZLE chassis responds to power far better than the ZR1, they're not going to purposely build something that much faster than their current halo Corvette.

I don't understand that though, I get it's your halo car but man pretty much everyone on this forum (#metoo) would sell their zl1 tomorrow if gm said they would put lt5 in the 23' camaro. bottom line of every large corporation such as gm is their revenue. they do nothing that will take away from revenue. Damn sure going to move MUCH more volume than zr1 simply because of accessibility. i don't see the potential downside for gm with this anywhere tbh...

Besides the larger and more efficient supercharger (2.65L 14 psi boost and 170 deg rotors vs 1.74L 9.4 psi and 160 deg rotors):
Improved intercoolers and higher temperature Delta (140 deg F temperature decrease vs. 130 deg F in the LT4)
Direct + port injection (LT4 has direct only, but both direct systems run at 2,900 psi)
Stronger crankshaft (LT4 crank is also stronger than LT1 crank) + improved bearings
Bigger TB (95 mm vs 87 mm)
Upgraded pushrod bearing coatings (but the pushrods themselves are LT4 carryovers)

What's not to get? GM doesn't want to have their most expensive Corvette outperformed by the Camaro. Would you buy the most expensive Corvette if you knew the most expensive Camaro beats it around the track?

Most notable difference I think is the LT5 uses port injection and direct injection, the LT4 uses only direct injection.

Has carbon build up on the intake valves been a problem for anyone with the LT4? Haven't heard any complaints about it and it's been around a while now.

Different customers. Some people want 4 seats, some are okay with two. Most of those that want a Vette, wouldn't consider a Camaro. No matter what it had in it. The LT5 in the ZL1 would have put the ZL1 with, if not ahead of the GT500 and Redeye as far as acceleration goes. Unfortunately, it's not gonna happen.

Unfortunately, the LT5 engine has even been discontinued for aftermarket purchase too.

For a while you could buy a LT5 blower and PI setup through Crawford. Doesn't look like they sell it anymore.
