Picked up a new '18 1LE. Anything to look out for?

Good morning everyone! Bought a new 2018 1SS 1LE this weekend. Is there anything I should expect or keep an eye on in the first few thousand miles. I've ready to change the oil and differential fluid fairly early.

Thanks!

I wouldn't touch the diff unless you need to. Not everyone has issues with it. Engine oil? Sure, do an early change.

These things are rock solid handling. I feel so locked in in mine. Hard to take it easy around town. The 1LE package is just amazing imo. Have Fun and Congrats!

Not necessarily things to watch out for, but there is a break-in procedure to follow that's outlined between the owner's manual and the high performance supplement. Since I didn't see a concise forum post that has all of the steps listed in order in one spot, I'll try to spell it all out. For the first 1500 miles for all 2016+ Camaros:
  1. Avoid full throttle starts and abrupt stops.
  2. Do not exceed 4000 engine RPM (even as a result of downshifting).
  3. Avoid driving at one constant speed, fast or slow.
  4. Don't drive faster than 80 mph.
  5. Don't "lug" the engine in a high gear at low speeds.
  6. Don't do any racing events.
  7. Keep an eye on oil level (although most people here report no oil loss during break in, myself included).
  8. Not required by the manual, but I personally changed engine oil and filter after the break-in period anyways just for peace of mind

For the first 200 miles:
  1. To break tires in, avoid high speeds and hard cornering.
  2. To break brake pads in, avoid hard stops (there's a full burnishing procedure below if you're interested).

Also, if you plan to track the car after it's broken in, do this stuff after you're done with the standard break in (specifically for SS or SS 1LE):
  1. Change engine oil to Dexos2 rated 0W-40 or 5W-40 (Manual specifically mentions Valvoline SynPower MST 5W-40, but there are others that meet this criteria).
  2. Change manual transmission fluid after every 10 hours of track driving.
  3. Change differential fluid before first track event
  4. Change differential fluid again after first track event, and from there after every 24 hrs of track driving.
  5. Flush brake system with DOT-4 that has a dry boiling point of over 279°C.
  6. Burnish the brake pads again (see list below for steps).
  7. Another thing not called out by the manual as a requirement, but I'd highly suggest getting the track alignment specified in the high performance supplement. This will make the car handle much better on the track as well as increase tire longevity on the track. I don't suggest this alignment if you're not driving on the track at all because it will make the insides of the tires wear faster than normal, but I've found mine wear pretty consistently with mixed track and street use.
  8. Another thing that isn't mentioned anywhere in the documentation but I'd suggest doing is getting a catch can. There's a bunch of posts on the forum regarding this topic, but the catch can I got seems to catch a lot of crap that would otherwise be cycled back through the intake.

Finally, here's the detailed brake burnishing procedure if you're planning to track the car:
  1. Brake from 60 mph down to 30 mph at 0.4g. Repeat this deceleration 25 times and drive for at least 0.5-0.6 miles between pressing the brakes. This step can be skipped if you have 200+ miles on the brakes from normal driving.
  2. Brake from 60 mph to 15 mph at 0.8g (or harder as long as you don't trigger ABS). Drive for at least 0.5-0.6 miles between brake applications until you feel the brake pedal move further than when you started. This shouldn't take more than 25 cycles to complete.
  3. Drive while avoiding using the brakes at 60 mph for 10 miles to let the brakes cool.
  4. Lastly, repeat step 1 for another 25 cycles.

I also just picked up an '18 1SS 1LE, at about 700 miles now. Just did the first oil change this weekend at 672 miles. I *mostly* followed the break in up until the oil change. Probably got above 4k rpm a few times, but never redlined it. I think not lugging it is more important. Now that I have the first oil change in I'll be a bit more liberal with the revs, but still not gonna beat on it too bad.

At 1500 miles I'll do another engine oil change, change the diff oil, and drive like normal.

And don't worry if you hear some crazy crunching sounds coming from the back of the car when you turn into a steep driveway. It probably lifted the inside rear wheel and the E-Diff makes some noise trying to compensate.

The 1LE diff has a service requirement at 1500 miles, there are no issues other than you need to change the diff fluid out at 1500 miles.

Where is that requirement? Not seeing that in my manual or supplement.

Owners manual says 45k miles.
