Starter Issue
What's up everyone.
I have a 2016 SS. And within the first 5 months of owning the car, I've blown through 2 starters (covered by warranty thankfully). However, this is not something I want to be dealing with for the next few years. The only modification the car has is a stage 1 GPI SS1 cam. I have a suspicion that this could be part of the issue, almost like the OEM starter has a problem turning over the engine due to the cam? Has anyone had this type of experience and was there a fix? Thanks. |

More info needed. Does the starter have issues on a hot start or cold start or both? Many of us deal with a slow crank on a hot start. I have never had an issue on a cold start. Do you have headers which could put even more heat into the starter causing it to heat soak and then fail?
As to a remedy for the hot start issues - there has not been a definitive solution. Many have tried new starters, new batteries or both as well as increased heat shielding. Some have even added a second engine to chassis ground cable. The results of all this has been mixed. I just deal with it. I avoid making multiple short stops on a hot engine as on the second or third stop - that is when I get a slow crank. Good luck and keep us posted.

How is your battery, fully charged and reads 14 v?
Did you have it load tested.

If you have the OEM battery, that's the problem. Ditch it.

I had the same problem with a 16 SS. Luckily the dealer replaced the starter but now with 50k miles it seems to be almost failing again. Bottom line the OEM starters are a P.O.S.
