Car got vandalized...how would you guys go about fixing this?

Well...some real evil people out there.

Came out of the grocery store earlier today, and found someone ripped the rear Chevy emblem off my car. Looks like they used some metal tool to get it off because there are see scratches in the paint.

Is my only option to repaint the entire trunk?

Thanks

you can always get one of those vinyl center pieces or you would have to replae the whole trunk or repaint it

That sucks!

How much of the scratching would be covered by the replacement emblem? If the emblem covers it all, touch it up to protect the surface and cover it with the new emblem.

No expertise implied or expressed

Like said above^^

If not, you will have to have the trunk repainted cause it will be hard to blend it properly on a small surface like this.

That's probably the way to go about this.

But seriously, stealing the emblem? That's a first. I know people steal the green Novice sign here all the time, but those are magnetic, so it won't leave a mark. It's still annoying enough that one of my friends got fed up with people stealing it, he cut a hole through the sign and secured it with a zip tie to provide a little more protection.

I cant gauge the best from the pictures but id try the least aggressive polish and go from there. Either a scratch remover or an auto store brand polish (turtle wax, meguiars , ect)

That looks like a repaint to me (I have been detailing for around 15 years, have a good idea what can be 'fixed'). If you can feel the scratch with your nail, that is usually damage down beyond the clear and it won't "buff out". A correction compound should help make it a little less visible, though.

At least should you be able to claim that on insurance as comprehensive as vandalism and only pay your deductible. Being black, it won't be too hard for them to blend and match with the rest of the car.

Thanks guys...I know it's hard to tell from the pictures, but it is a very deep scratch, down to the primer.

For now I have ordered another rear chevy emblem ($100 - seriously??) and I will wait for it to come to see how much of the scratches it covers

On my phone and by the picture it looks like its a good scratch on the clearcoat. So yeah, its worth a shot.

That being said if OP said its down to the primer then a respray is the only way to fix it.

Either way I'm sorry that happened to your OP. Some People suck and can't respect other peoples property.

If you can cancel that order I have a never installed oem rear black bowtie sitting in my garage I'll sell you. I definitely wouldn't charge anywhere near $100 for it.

Appreciate it buddy, but they have already shipped it out and I don't want to go through the hassle of trying to cancel it.

I agree with guy above who said get the black vinyl piece that goes across the back from chevy, if emblem won't cover it. I would buff it out first just to see what can be removed too
