Procharger air inlet

is anyone just running the bellmouth and a screen in place of that horrible inlet pipe with a 90deg right before the inlet?

TIA i

I'm running the newest kit that allows for a strut brace.

Want to know this too. That inlet pipe is hideous. Put on the strut tower brace and it smashes the filter, can't access plugs and wires, etc. What kind of screen and how would it be mounted?

Jesus dude enough already with your maggie obsession, he asked a question and you give an answer that has nothing to do with anything.

Yesterday I was looking at the many parts I’ve made over the years because I wanted to see if I could make something for my car. While I’m not Procharged now, it’s the path I want to take.

So, I made this for an Ultra Street car I wrench on when we have time to race. However, I want to take this design and 3D print one, 100% infill, from carbon fiber nylon 6. I believe this filament will hold up great under the hood as far as heat and the air flow.

Maybe I’ll work on a solid model like your describing when I have some spare time using my original as the foundation.

Just to have an "alternate" opinion, I used to have a Maggie and now have a Procharger. LOL

In all seriousness which do you prefer since you now have had both? BTW I'm still hoping someone can answer the original question about running a turbo guard instead of the filter

Only a fool would run one on a street car. A "screen" ain't a filter. Fine grain sand will turn the supercharger and engine into slag. Does a procharger make boost? What is the pressure drop before the wheel? Lastly how hot is the air and does it really matter on a ride with a large intercooler. In all probability your "screen" would add near ZERO HP at the expense of critical wear and even possible wheel failure... but I guess it looks "race".

I should also add (I did design an air intake for a turbo engine that was marketed), that a rather sharp bend before the the wheel can actual break up the votic flow and increase overall wheel flow.... it ain't a bug it is a feature. Long story short many OEM application have sharp bends not because they are fools, the engineers know that pipe flow does not work when you are dealing with a spinning wheel, and think of this as round sink's central drain.

Agree...I wouldn't run a Turbo guard on a street car. That is basically like running nothing. Only thing it will keep out is larger objects, but smaller debris can still make it's way in and cause damage to the charger and engine.

I was looking into a bellmouth for my street driven D1SC. However, I changed my mind after I saw how dusty my car got from a short drive, let alone sitting.

Everything that was said previously regarding running without a filter for street is a valid concern and I am sure some will say the risk is worth it to possibly pick up a few extra lbs of boost.

So like a lot of things it comes down to how much risk are you willing to take.

I may entertain the option of running a filter directly on the blower - I have seen a few run that set up but no clue if they actually lost flow from not having the pipe with the curve.

Both work good. Maggie has ton of torque down low vs Procharger which is "lazier".

Now it was changed around three years ago, it was changed because at that time there were no upgraded intercoolers, no larger TB inlet, no 2650 and with my car being a 416 and located in the scorching humid heat of the caribbean it was always suffering from heat soak, it was really fast till the 1/8, then IAT were way over ECT killing a lot of power.

This was even with a ton of water/meth being injected. I tried to keep it, but there was nothing available and for the larger TB inlet they asked a ton of money as it was a custom one off piece. Few months later they came out with all the good stuff for the 2300 and then 2650. At that point I was really happy with my Procharger.

Sometimes I think about going to a 2650, but nah is OK I keep the one on the car now.
