Looks like it was Camaro there but doesn't sound like for anything major
Could be just testing the cooling of the new fascias. I’m sure if it was anything too exciting, someone would have noticed.

I think it will get there too. Just want to see how much it gets there by before I think a Camaro doing it is possible lol

The ACR Viper hit a 7:01, it probably would have broken 7 minutes on two occasions however on the first run that was running good they got a flat tire and on the second try they were short on time and instead of checking and changing the tires they stayed out and crashed.

The current ring king is the Porsche 911 GT2 RS with 6:47.3 and this is a car with 700BHP and coming in at 3,240 pounds. The ZR1 Corvette with 755BHP and 3,500ish pounds has a chance to counter this lap time, will it? I don't know.

It's a Vette, ie attainable supercar for the masses. An affordable competitor for things like baby Lambos and Ferraris. What do you propose it would be competing against at that power level? A Lamborghini Huracan starts at 200k and the most powerful one makes 630 hp. An Aventador starts at $399,500 and the most powerful one makes 740 hp. 800 in a Vette would literally make no sense.

Why would it not make sense? Why not be the car setting the bar for a change? The ZR1 Vette will be pretty capable from where I see it.

They really are not setting power levels based on any competitor as the Viper is gone, now they are chasing records at this point so why not 800BHP in a Vette (the after market already does it).

On the official press release the weight was stated as being 3,560 to 3,618 pounds (I would guess base car with either 7 speed manual or 8 speed auto).

The CT6 is closest in its dimensions to the Mercedes S-class. Wheel Base - CT6: 122.4", S-Class: 124.6". Overall Length - CT6: 204.1", S-Class: 206.5". The weights differ, Base CT6: 3,666 lbs, S-Class: listed as 4,630 lbs in both RWD and 4MATIC (AWD), The S63 is listed at 4,806 lbs. The S560 has a 4.0L Twin Turbo V8 rated at 463 Hp/ 516 lb/ft Torque. Cadillac wins there.... The S63 (equivalent to what a CT6-V would be) also has a 4.0L TT V8, but its turned up to 603 Hp/664 lb/ft Tq. Mercedes wins there, depending on what the actual weight if the CT6 V Sport is compared to the base model.

If you want to just compare engines with competitors by size and output:
Cadillac 4.2 TT -
500 Hp/Unknown Tq
550(+) Hp/627 Tq

Mercedes 4.0 TT -
AMG GT - 469 Hp/465 Tq
AMG GT S - 515 Hp/494 Tq
AMG GT C - 550 Hp/502 Tq
AMG GT R - 577 Hp/516 Tq
C63 - 469 Hp/479 Tq
C63 S - 503 Hp/516 Tq
E63 S - 603 Hp/627 Tq
S560 - 463 Hp/516 Tq
S63 - 603 Hp/664 Tq
SL63 - 577 Hp/664 Tq

BMW 4.4 TT -
550i - 456 Hp/480 Tq
650i - 445 Hp/480 Tq
750i - 445 Hp/479 Tq
M5 - 600 Hp/553 Tq
M6 - 560 Hp/500 Tq

Audi 4.0 TT -
S6 - 450 Hp/406 Tq
S7 - 450 Hp/406 Tq
A8 L - 450 Hp/406 Tq
RS7 - 607 Hp/553 Tq
S8 Plus - 605 Hp/517 Tq

I've actually been shopping the CPO market for a 2016 CTS-V vs. a 2014 MB AMG E63 S. Two great cars to buy used because of the massive depreciation. Even though the CTS-V is lighter and has more power, it's pretty much a no-brainer to go with the AMG for me at least because of these other factors.

  1. MB CPO warranty is so much better for DD car (unlimited mileage).
  2. You get treated like you expect to be treated when you bring the car in for service
  3. Blizzaks + AWD for the winter (and you can turn it off when you don't want it on).
  4. The MB is way classier inside and out than the Caddy

Most of those aftermarket cars do nothing but dyno runs and the occasional highway pull or drag pass. They are a nightmare for traction and how many times do you think they can be pushed before a total rebuild is needed? Even then, the only thing they are good for is straight line.

The Vette is supposed to handle well. The Z06 was already annoying for professional drivers to handle on track with 650 HP. The 750 HP in the ZR1 will be somewhat tamed by aero, but it will still be well beyond what an average human can really use. At this point, you are just asking for numbers for numbers sake. The actual benefit to the end user is nil, and will make the car more of a headache to cope with. Especially if the owner actually uses it for what it was intended, ie not bragging about your dyno numbers to other hard parkers at Cars and Coffee.

There's such a thing as diminishing returns. At that power level, you would really need AWD to make proper use of it, this would add weight, complexity, more things to break... I could go on and on.

We are not all panty waisted. Some people actually use all the power they can muster. Sounds more to me you are the cars and coffee type. Nothing at all wrong with an 800hp Corvette. Zr1 is already 755 and I'd bet it holds it's own wherever it is. Of course the Nannies might be a hindrance/obstacle. Just the nature of the car hobbyist.
One small example would be my 52 year old Chevelle. You'd be stunned at how original the car appears down to the lowly 12 bolt differential. It does quite well at making 900 hp stick at launch. It's certainly not a road course type of car but not everyone who buys a Vette drives in circles either. This is 2018 and like it or not the engines are laying down very impressive power ratings. It's up to the end used to utilize the power. The overpriced Euro car's are sucking hind tit.

You just admitted to having 900 hp with a "lowly" 12 bolt differential, yet you think I sound like the Cars and Coffee type lol? I've never been to one. Too busy doing track days and autocross. Your Chevelle makes that power stick by having tires that won't come on a production car and weighing a lot, which a Vette chassis won't. Just like you said, it doesn't turn and regardless of what you do with it, a Vette is MEANT to turn. 2018 hasn't altered the laws of physics last I checked, and if a PRO, CHAMPION race car driver thinks 650 in a Vette chassis is unbalanced, we don't stand a snail's chance in hell with 800 hp in a Vette. That being said, overpriced Euro trash can be surprising:

Clearly, we don't need more power for comparing ourselves to others, we need more chassis/drivetrain development so the Vette can continue to stick it to the Euros at a lower cost and higher reliability.

Here's a previous gen ZR1, rated 20 hp more than the Huracan and weighing less. Watch the Huracan smoke it, all it took was AWD and DCT. Not more power.
