Old Generation ZL1 vs new Generation SS 1LE
Wanted to get a few opinions on this..
When I was looking for mine, I found a older ZL1 and almost jumped on it. However I ended up with a 22' SS 1LE. Did I make the right decision? I was told to get the new 1LE as its a way better ride and even faster depending on what you are doing. However for some reason I keep seeing the older ZL1 and makes me think.. Anyone else been through this? What do YOU think is the better car? And why? Would love to hear the community on this! |

You definitely made the right choice. The lighter more rigid alpha chassis alone is worth it, then add in the newer interior and tech plus the SS 1LE wheels are the best looking of them all. The LT1 engine improvements are also significant. Easy choice for me.

I preferred my 19 SS/1LE over the '17 ZL1. You made the right move

I assume you are comparing a 6 gen ss 1le versus a 5th gen zl1. I think you made the better call i wouldn’t buy a 5th gen over a 6 gen unless it was a z28

Very different cars. The old ZL1 is heavy, especially in automatic and vert is ridiculous, but potential for upgrading with supercharger and other means is going to be easier than getting power from NA engine. 1LE is a much better handler and lighter.

5th gen isn't even on the radar. You made the right choice.

LOL! Asking 6th Gen forum members if you made the right choice. They are both fantastic vehicles. If you'd have purchased the ZL1 you'd probably be pretty happy. The 5th Gen LSA with its supercharger whine is pretty intoxicating especially with a 6 speed manual. On my list of "maybe someday" track vehicles is a '18 SS 1LE with a built LT1.You made a good choice with the 1LE, enjoy!

Right decision for sure. I have had 2 2SS 1LE's and really liked them. I also had 2 ZL1's. Currently have a 22 ZL1 that I ordered new. Just think of all the potential issues with the older ZL1 and how much you might have saved repair dollar wise. Enjoy the 1LE.

I went with a 6th gen SS over a 5th gen ZL1, the 6th gens are stupid fast for the price and the interior is night and day better in the 6th gen. The 5th gen interiors have not aged well at all.

A few years from now I may tackle the "hard plastic overhaul project" I've thought of occasionally, plus see if a larger infotainment screen module could be squeezed in (after all, I could simply add an SD card reader to the USB panel and it worked out of the box, even its icon was correct with a card inserted).

Really would like the idea of a gravedigger swap from a gen 5 to my 6th gen, but if I'm going to do that I might as well put a ZL1 rear end in, probably cost just as much. I would buy a 5th Gen ZL1 though if I could. I really don't care much for the 5th gen exterior, but if I could put 5th gen guts into a 6th gen body I'd be happy especially when modifying it.

i never was impressed with anything about the 5g. i liked the seats, that's about it. i gave myself a 30k budget when i bought the 6g 1LE. i was looking at 5g cars, thankfully i did not buy one. i threw a few thousand dollars more out and came away with a car i wish i had bought much sooner.
