For those able to track with OnStar, is the service free like a trial period? I don't want to enable something and then get charged later, or have to cancel after a trial period.

Free for 30 days. If you enter your credit card info you can get a 90 day trial period. I called my salesman who activated Onstar for me, took all of 2 minutes, and I got an email to download the app. My car was built on 5/26 and still sitting in the same spot near 99 and the river on the factory lot, with 2 miles on the odometer and no gas. I set up a perimeter/circle, to be notified if it goes off the factory lot.

Interesting. Is this something we can activate on our own or do we need to contact our dealer

Pretty sure the dealer has to activate it. I think it is part of the normal sales process they do when you buy the car.

And at the railyard... I'm guessing I might not be able to track it when it's on the train if the GPS can't get a fix.

No you cant, only the dealer can. Once on the train, you can ask your salesman to track for you, mine sent me updates via text whenever he seen it move. At least this was my experience when mine shipped.

Your dealer can track it on the train from departure to destination...mine texted me every morning with an update...as of right now it's been offloaded in the rail yard waiting for the truck to transport it a big whopping 37 miles to the dealership...ETA is 6/13

Looks like my car has been loaded on the train and have been able to get Onstar location updates so far - just small movements on the track as they jockey rail cars around to load more cars. Hopefully I can track all the way to Maryland.

Heading through northwest PA. Looks like Onstar and /or GPS fix are hit or miss on a train, but still pretty good IMO.

Unfortunately the onstar is only a month free trial, then you have to pay or cancel it. With a manual trans, it doesn’t do enough to justify a monthly fee.

Agree, I will probably cancel mine once the 90 days is up.

It's In Maryland now. I think I am only able to get a location update when the train stops at a CSX hub, and they open the doors to offload cars. The stop in PA was also a CSX depot.

Arrived at CSX in Jessup MD. Final rail stop before delivery. Dealer says delivery ETA is 6/27. Not too bad. Ordered 3/21, built 5/26. 1SS 1LE Black.
