Which Rod?

Greetings.

We are starting out build plan for a mild 416 LT1 with an LT4 blower - 650-700 CHP. Do hope to spin it to 7000 rpm.

We have a rotating assembly on order with a Callies Compstar rod, but availability is poor. Texas Speed also offers a K-1 and Lunati along with their store brand TSP's.

The Callies match the crank, but with no ETA - leaning toward the Lunati models. These are the basic H-beams with ARP 2000 bolts.

Any comments on quality between the three?

The assembly will be balanced so the variances should be flushed out in that respect.

Thanks for the inputs.

I’m currently running the Callies Compstar at 1120 CHP with good results to date.

416’s stroke makes it a less optimum choice if you’re looking for 7K RPM. The small LT4 blower already hits hard down low, I’d stick with stock stroke IMO.

K1 was bought by Wiesco if I recall, and if you're talking about the rods I think you are, I haven't heard anyone say anything bad about them. At that level, they should be plenty good. I had a set for a 408 (with their matching crank) I built for my H2, and they were finished great and measured as good as anything in that price range. I don't really like mixing manufacturers, but I'm not an expert, and that really doesn't mean anything for these purposes. At that power, I think K-1s are fine. I've got no comment on RPM. I forget pin height, but I ran Mahle 4032s and balanced everything. My machinest said 7K would be okay with my set-up. No blower though, so not completely apples-to-apples.

Thanks gentlemen. The Callies are my first choice, but it could be months before they come in.

Choices are:
- K1 (10-12AE25613)
- Lunati's (53-70361251)
- TSP model.

I'm a cubic inch fan so the 416 a done deal. Very likely this combination of LT4 blower won't be its final incarnation.

And I don't expect to spin it that high on a regular basis, just for those autobahn runs when I feel the need for speed. :-)

Did some more research and K-1's seem to be as respectable as any. Updated my order to reflect that choice.

I was told by K1 since there's are on back order to use the summit h beam rods he said there good hint hint.. says 1100 hp.

Also if you watch the steeve Morison LS build videos he swears by speedmaster procomp for 1000 hp builds but I notice they have some Ibeams for 1100 plus on summit.

Manely crank is in stock on sale for 947.00 at cnc motorsports summit will match, i found the best price on pistons at Thompson motor sports for 830 they were MAhle summit will match..

the rods I was looking at the following..

Summit Hbeam $520
Manely R on the end of the part number 6 something
Procomp 430

have summit match it all !
