Well don't come to FL as the weather here sucks 9 months out of the year.

80,000 miles of driving tracked in my Silverado 4x4 using 87, total cost for fuel of $11,202. That breaks down to 13.9 cents/mile.
19,800 miles of driving tracked in my Acura RDX AWD using 93, total cost for fuel of $2,200. That breaks down to 11 cents/mile. I have numbers for the Camaro, but at less than 4,000 miles of driving tracked, they are still susceptible to variation. I'm currently seeing around 12.6 cents/mile for cost. Cost per mile is all that really matters when you're trying to understand fuel costs. |

My daily is a 5 mile scenic cruise around the lake to my hospital. Tank of gas last 2-3 weeks. |

Well at least my truck gets better mileage than my car. Car ~12K miles a year at 19.3mpg (so far, total average) fuel hovers in the $2.7x range. Has moved to $2.8x lately.

Your misconception is people envy your state, but you couldn’t pay me to live in California. I say this as someone living in the Midwest equivalent of California; Illinois, except minus the weather and beaches. My business is here, so I stay, but if (when) I move somewhere warmer, it would be Texas, Tennessee, or North Carolina (Love the Outer Banks). If I wanted more of the same but more land, I’d move to the Black Hills of South Dakota or Northern Michigan. I’d say California is #50 on my list of states I’d ever live in. PS - interesting analysis about the gas, but I measure in smiles per gallon.

We have a few acres in NC, that's likely where we'll retire when the time comes.

Only 870? Why are you so narrow minded?

I always worry about gas prices and gas mileage as I have a long commute to work and drive about 500 miles a week. Especially now with the rise in gas prices. My former Camaro got 33 MPG on regular gas, which I sure do miss. I had to experience a V8 manual and was close to getting an SS although a deal came up on a 2006 C6 Corvette, which I could not pass up. My Wrangler gets 15, Vette about 23 and my Double Cab Silverado 4 X 4 is the champ at 24 MPG.
Bottom line- short commutes and low mileage it does not matter as much gas prices. Long commutes can cost a lot. Premium gas makes it even worse.

I agree, but I may be jaded by spending the previous 19 years in the Peoples Republic of NY before moving here, and 10 years in Michigan before that. We don't need no more stinkin' snow shovels! But as to gas mileage, I have no idea. Just gas 'em up when they need it.

Fuel costs are one portion of that. And then you *could* add in depreciation costs but that's a harder number to pin down. Again - that's where that truck just might be the cheapest overall thing you could drive - although just the fuel numbers alone won't show it. |
