Key fob not staying clean

When we get our cars, the black rubber of the key fobs is pretty nice; almost like it's got some sort of clearcoat on it. Over time, as we use it to lock the car, open trunk, etc. this may wear off. Now, my key fob is constantly dirty, attracts lint, and is kind of "sticky". I've used water & a soft cloth, the Mr. Clean magic eraser to try & clean the front face of the fob where all the symbols are, with no luck.

Anyone else's key fob getting this way? Anyone have any luck keeping it clean?

My keyfob is plastic but haven’t had the issue you described. Maybe alternating key fobs every few months would help reduce wear. If the shiny plastic surface has been worn off, nothing you can do to restore it in my experience.

Why use it for that stuff? You can lock/unlock and open trunk just by it being in proximity. The only time I've pushed a button on mine is to occasionally roll down the windows. But to answer your question, I saw a show once where a shop was restoring a Ferrari that had interior controls, knobs, and faceplates in that condition. They brought them back to new by a combination of cleaning, sanding, and painting with a special paint for that purpose.

I accidently left my key fob in a zipper pants pocket and it went through the washer and dryer. Came out nice and clean. Amazingly, it still works.

I have the same problem. Did you ever find a solution?

I have one of these without the lanyard, I like the leather. I no longer have any use for it, whoever wants to pay postage can have it

They do make a replacement fob cover. Just have to put your electronics in the new fob.

I just figure this out recently. There is a protective film that comes on the fob like what comes on the screen in the car. It’s real hard to see. It probably should have removed at delivery. When the film cracks, it peels up in sticky chunks. Once you get the film peeled off the issue stops.
