1LE - Pros & Cons
Hi guys,
I'll be purchasing a Camaro 2SS in 6-speed, and am debating whether 1LE is a worthwhile $6K option for me. If I don't get the 1LE, I'll still equip my car with the Magnetic Suspension and Exhaust. Moreover, I will never be taking the car to track. For those that have the 1LE, what do you like the most about it? The least? Your advice is much appreciated! |

I had a 16 2SS manual and now have a 18 2SS 1LE. The ride is a bit stiffer obviously but its not bad by any means. I just put it in tour mode if i hit a bumpy road. Otherwise i have not found any other cons. I think the 1LE is very much worth the extra 7 grand.

I was thinking of a loaded 2SS, but it's priced about $3k less than the 1LE which comes with brakes, seats, and 1LE cosmetics. If you find a dealer that isn't a Camaro museum, you can probably get a 1LE for a decent price.
As for the cons... Maintaining the hood wrap requires additional detailing steps (can't use gloss clear coat stuff on it). |

I bought a 2SS and had the 1LE suspension kit installed. Kit was $1500 and another $500 for install.
I don't have the other 1LE options, but I like the firmer suspension, larger sway bars, and it lowered the car about a 3/4 inch. I also don't like the flat black hood on the 1LE, I prefer the SS striping.

I was pulling .56G on a circle-onramp today and saw the Gs and thought, "no, wait, I got whole a lot of Gs left!", so I floored it.

I have a 16 2SS and a 17 1LE.
If you get the 1LE with 2ss package I think you will have the best car on earth. LOL I wish I could combine my two into one awesome car like that.

I think the hood wrap is probably the only legitimate concern at all, if you even want to call it that. It will take extra care and protection that many of your cleaning products may not cover initially. Other than that, I must admit, I thoroughly enjoy the road presence this car has, as well as the attention it receives.
Oh, it also handles like a dream so, there's that.

The non-1LE Camaro is an amazing performance machine, and $6,500 is A LOT of money. Having owned and loved a previous 1LE, believing they are a great DD in all respects, I would forgo the option this time around if not planning to track. The only thing you cannot do to a non-1LE SS is add the E-diff. You will never utilize that to its potential on the streets anyway, so why pay almost $7K for it? If I were in your shoes I would buy the non-1LE version, and add some Wheels etc to the car and save a ton of money. Either way you will be happy, but for 100% street driven it seems a waste of money considering the price.

Just be aware of the tires. They don't last long and are expensive to replace. Also, they are quite a bit noisier than the non-1LE. The brakes also give off dust like crazy. I'm talking first trip your front wheels are covered. Not sure if the SS does that or not. If you're not gonna track it then I'd heavily consider if the looks and the seats are worth 6k to you.
