Speeding Issue?

Hey guys!

I've come here for advice from you guys incase anyone had a similar experience.

I'm new to my '16 maro and while driving back from NC to FL through GA managed to get pulled over doing 108 on a 70 on a interstate highway 10 hours into a 12 hour drive. Didn't get a ticket but have been called to court.

I'm not necessarily looking for legal advice, I'm planning on showing up and pleading the situation to the judge and hoping for a light fine.

Does anyone have any words or thoughts?

How can you be called to court without a ticket? The county has your ticket on file. Google the county, it will be online. Dont skip the court date.

That's usually minimum reckless driving. It sounds like maybe you really had no idea you were going that fast??

38 over? That's a mandatory court appearance and good luck with a "light fine."

From Georgia Code:

Quote:
(a) Any person who drives any vehicle in reckless disregard for the safety of persons or property commits the offense of reckless driving.
(b) Every person convicted of reckless driving shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine not to exceed $1,000.00 or imprisonment not to exceed 12 months, or by both such fine and imprisonment, provided that no provision of this Code section shall be construed so as to deprive the court imposing the sentence of the power given by law to stay or suspend the execution of such sentence or to place the defendant on probation.
Quote:
(b) In addition to any other fines or penalties imposed by any local jurisdiction or the department, the department shall administer and collect a fee of $200.00 from any driver who is convicted of driving at a speed of 85 miles per hour or more on any road or highway or 75 miles per hour or more on any two-lane road or highway, as defined in Code Section 40-6-187. Such a driver, upon conviction, shall be classified as a "super speeder."
Enjoy OP.

Nice of Georgia to let you get your affairs in order before you start serving time on the chain gang. Say hi to Bubba for me. Also, more time is added to your sentence for using the term "maro"....Good luck.

You should get another ticket for calling it a 'Maro.

Well, going that fast you certainly won't be believed if you use the excuse "I'm not used to the car yet"

There's really nothing you can do except offer to take whatever class/pay whatever fine they ask to avoid more severe penalties (i.e. jail)
