I agree with your 2nd sentence. One platform = less cost.

But I do believe we will see the current "cheaper" front engine Corvette alongside the top of the line mid engine car for a good while. I also would bet money we will see at least a nice refresh of the front engine Corvette before it goes all mid-engine, if not a new generation. I think one or two more special edition front engine Corvettes will follow, so that it can go out with a bang. After that, it will be all mid engine. (I'm thinking what the article is saying....2020+ timeframe)

I do not agree that GM is moving all their brands up market. Cadillac....Yes. The others? No way. I would say they are doing what they can to move the quality meter (and perception of quality) upward in a positive direction, but they aren't going to start moving Chevrolet upmarket. GM needs good affordable and "working man's" vehicles more than they need anything fancy. It will always be Ford = Chevrolet = Dodge/Ram....so on and so forth.

Camaro and vette are too experience to call working men cars. Both have already moved upscale in their target market.
If you told me there would be a 50k SS or 65k option 10 years ago I would have laughed at you very loud.

thats just the nature of the beast. Consumers what more things. Heated and ventilated seats, HUD, Mag ride. If you told me those would be options on an SS 10 years ago i would have been laughing right along side of you.

If you told me 10 years ago, a base SS Camaro would beat an M4, I would laugh at you.

Fast, quality, cheap. Pick three. The people have spoken and GM met their demands. Now the people are angry.

Also keep this in mind:

Today, a V6 Camaro can match a Z28 from 20 years ago in the 1/4, while out handling it, out braking it, and getting much better fuel economy (on regular no less). Not only that, but once you adjust for inflation costs less too.

Or, for the SS ... today, the Camaro SS has basically the same level of performance as the Viper from 2 decades ago.

Would have thought that the Average Honda or Toyota would be $30k ten years ago?

I still remember when my parents' '07 Malibu LS was $17,495 before employee pricing. That's Cruze money these days, but the current Malibu is also leaps and bounds better now.

You get what you pay for.

My Dad and I have been having the, "Can you believe what these cars cost today?" conversation since I've been old enough to be interested in them.

I think our shock at it is more a reflection of pay scales not keeping up with the increasing expense than it is anything else.

Ding ding! Winner!

This wouldn't be an issue if pay increases have kept up with cost increases.

The reason why cars seem so expensive now is because wages have remained flat for 35 years. If they had kept up proportionally we wouldn't be having these issues.

Whatever this thing is, it's mid engine for sure. It does look to have C7 inspired tail lights.

You can see in the intake just in front of the rear wheel.

If priced resonably... I'm getting one. Hover around the price of the current ZO6 and I'll figure it out. Mid engine RWD 6.2L DOHC and an 8 (or more) speed paddle shifted Trans and well... they better install a TP dispenser for multiple reasons.
