To recommend the poster to adjust his grip is insane. Don't change anything. Enjoy your car. And try to get this replaced for free. If you can't, buy a new one every few years.

I'd say it should be covered under warranty but I doubt they will cover it since it can really fall into the "normal" wear. Even thought it is not normal, they could consider that the use was abusive and that it wasn't a manufacturer issue. Stupid question for the OP... Are you wearing a wedding ring? I guess that would be the type of damage done by a ring if driven by the left hand on top of the wheel..

To everyone telling me to "change where I hold the wheel"....I honestly hardly ever hold the wheel here. I usually hold at the 10 and 2 position. Not wearing a ring or anything either.
Is it possible this is from sun damage? (I park under a spot where it is very sunny at work). I will contact my dealer tomorrow Thanks |

I did have a car that had a "leather" steering wheel (in quotes because of that car, not the camaro), that I rubbed my leg on everytime I entered, because of where I kept the wheel. I did have some pants that marred the wheel up prematurely (at around 12k miles). I'm not saying that's what is happening here, but it's something to look out for. |

Frankly, I think it's a luck-of-the-draw thing. Leather can be weird stuff. Some holds up, some doesn't. So many factors involved. I still say the dealer will replace it. |

Let's use this supposedly more durable material and then not replace it when obvious materials defect occurs!

Warranty treats it’s the same was my point. I’ve seen warranty claims go through the last 16 years, if it’s a leather or cloth wear item it will be covered once unless it’s a defect. It’s hard to tell by the pic, but the #1 leather damage cause is hand lotion. Some just eat away and crack and peel leather. How many people on this board has had that problem on a 6th gen yet? One? Chances are slim it’s a defect or we’d see it much much more. But yes it will be covered.

Good luck with the dealer. They damaged my 2013 steering wheel & I had to threaten them with damaging the dealer's reputation...all over the internet. Chevy Corp told the dealer they better get on it. They did but sour taste was left in my mind. Too little too late. I traded the car in 3 weeks later.
With my 2018 black wheels I will be going over each wheel with service adviser & he will notate the wheels were chip free. I learned that lesson with my silver painted wheels on my 2013. |

My leather seats in one of my other vehicles began to crack prematurely with less than 12,000 miles. Dealer changed those out without a question.
