Class Action Lawsuit for Starting Issue

Wasn't sure if this was already posted.

A class action lawsuit has been filed alleging that a defect related to the starter and heat shield is causing a host of problems. For instance, drivers have reported that the starter will “just click” or that the engine will crank, but that the car won’t start.

Here is a link to the lawsuit.

Didn't know this was a thing. How prevalent is this problem, and does it really affect last couple years?

I had this issue on my 2016 SS in 2016 when I bought it. Less than 3000 miles on it and it would have problems with hot start and then the transmission started shuddering with no known fix at the time. I traded it for a C7 with an M7.

So far so good on my 2021 ZL1 but did they ever actually fix this issue? I read about the additional ground wire fix but did GM start using a thicker ground wire on later models?

Wasn’t this mainly a 2016 problem? I didn’t follow the link, just going off of memory here.

I have zero interest in getting involved with a class action suit that will go nowhere when a $15.00 cable and ten minutes of time totally eliminated the problem for me. My car has started with no issues since I added the ground cable in Dec 2020. Before that I never knew if the car would start or not on a fully warmed engine.

but what about the A/C evaporator that costs 2 grand to replace,or the 5th gen heater cores? youd think they were worthy of litigation...

but your share of the settlement will pay for one fifteenth of that cable

... and for fifteen times worth of new cars for the lawyers

I added a 0awg wire, it was still happening. I then replaced the battery back in October 2021 and it has been good until earlier this week I got the same symptoms again when starting the car and it happened two days in a row. Idk if the battery is going bad or another issue. I might try to warranty the battery, idk.

I tried multiple batteries and installed the recommended cable and I still have the hot slow start. Pretty embarrassing when everyone is looking at my beautiful car!

I'm definitely not one for the "corporate greed" bandwagon, but companies do need to step up and make things right.

If nothing else, it makes good business sense.
