305s? Bad idea?

I do mostly spirited street driving with occasional track days for my own enjoyment. Nothing competitive or anything.

Would going to the same setup as the ZL1 with 305s in the rear make a noticeable difference when I'm driving? I understand why 285s are used but I'm just not a fan of how they look on the back.

If the performance takes a serious hit, I'll stick with the 285s. I can get a good deal, locally, on any tires at the moment. I don't need them but I'd rather buy them now.

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are?

My fiancé and I both have 1LEs. She has been running the 305s for a while now, and driving her car compared to mine there is no noticable difference between the two handling wise.

Really? Some posts I've read makes it seem like the difference is noticeable and terrible when it comes to understeer.

Not sure it matters, but I'm dropped 1.4" on BMR springs.

If your not driving for all out max effort all the time I'm sure you'll never really notice the difference with 305's on the street. Now if you get to a track and start timing your laps you may notice a difference then (all depends on driver skill level and I'm not cutting on anyone I just don't know your skill level).

Exactly. I'm no professional... at all. I'm not sure how long it'll take me to get to a level where I'll be timing my laps and trying to squeeze every second I can out of the car.

I have to make the decision this afternoon and I don't want to buy something I'll regret later. It really is just a cosmetic thing... it's not a big deal.

That's why if it's not something that'll make a big impact of a novice on the track or street, I may go with 305s.

Ay other differences? More noise? Less noise? Which brand is best?

+1...I have run 305's for over a year and notice no difference at all. I also am not tracking the car yet(waiting a few years), so all my experience is on the street and I am not pushing the car to the limits at which one would notice this change.

She drives her car harder than I ever will mine. She is on her third set of rear tires now with a lil over 20,000 km on the odo, with this set and the last being the wider 305s. Now yes for the hard core enthusiast that's tracking every weekend I'm sure the difference is there and very noticeable. But for the people that get the car out for what it's built for a few times a year probably not so much.

I had 305s on the rear for about 12k and did not notice any difference on the street. I've only done 2 track days and have been on two different tracks, the first with 305s (F1's) and the second with 285s (PSS). Car handled like a champ and stuck like glue in the corners both days, but I may not have enough experience to notice the difference. I do think the 305 F1's look better in the rear. When I went back to 285s the PSS look wider than the F1 285s.

My .02, hope it helps.

Awesome. I just want to make sure I don't lose any handling on turns that I'll notice.

What made you go back to 285s?

I to have the 305s on the back and I drive my car hard on the street more often than not. I can't tell one ounce of difference in the car at all other than they may hood up just slightly better than the 285's.

Mine are almost shot...got almost 2500 miles out of them this summer. Tires are a seasonal maintenance item for me. Lol.

She is using the Goodyear F1s. And she has a set of general gmax on nurburgring tsw's when it's too cold for the goodyears. I will be sticking with the Goodyears as well when my set are done, which will be start of next summer.

Fantastic! I think I'll go with 305's. I think I'm ok. But 305's wouldn't be an issue if I'm lowered 1.4", right?

Here's a pic, just to see the clearance.
