First oil change

So I used my free oil change today at the dealer and they said the LT4 is now DexosR which is Mobil 1 supercar 0w-40. I was going to use Amsoil Signature series when I start doing my own oil changes but it is only dexos2. The Mobil1 supercar is the only dexosR that I have found. I have always used Amsoil and especially after seeing alot of test data showing how much better Amsoil is to Mobil 1 but the data was std Mobil1. I have seen Penzoil platinum is also tested better than Mobil1 and just behind Amsoil.

Anyone now if Dexos 2 is still ok since my owner manual shows dexos 2. Does anyone have a 2023 and does it say to use dexosR now?

Won't make any difference at all. AMSOIL is a top notch synthetic. As long as you're using the correct weight, let it ride. People put way too much thought into oil. The most important thing about oil changes is using the correct weight and changing the oil and filter at regular intervals. I have known people that NEVER even changed their oil one time in a vehicle and it still lasted over 100k miles before giving any issues.

So true, I mean I have a 2022 ZLE and the manual says dexos2. I don't work for GM but judging by the people around here spouting the end of the Camaro, I seriously doubt GM has made any changes to the engine that dexos2 won't work with. Just like the name change of the oil to Supercar, it is probably 100% a branding thing.

Yes and Yes to the above two comments! It's just oil in a stock engine. The only reason they keep changing oil is for emissions and fuel economy. The engine is the same it has been since 2017 when they said 5w30. I run Redline 5w30 in mine. (oh no! so much ZDDP!!!)

Dexos2 is more for diesel engines, and 2 doesn't have as long as a life span as dexos 1. Put 30 weight or 40, and dive on.

are you guys all doing your first ones at 500 miles, or at what number? I'm at 600 now - thinking of making an appt for the complimentary one this weekend if needed

I did my first oil change right at 500 miles, but the dealer insisted GM wouldn’t pay for it since it was too early and no longer required. I just payed for it since I was already there and didn’t have my Race Ramps yet. I tried telling them it’s my first oil change and I should be able to use it when I wanted to. I’m just going to wait until the 1 year is up or my oil life gets down to 20%.

Anyone else have this problem? If they push back again, I’ll contact GM customer service

How about ash content which adds risk of gooping up valves and/or other additives killing cats?

I did my first oil change at 1000. I was going to do it at 500 but figured I was close to putting it away for winter so I waited a few weeks and got mine changed at 1000 using the free oil change and used my gm points I got from buying car to have rear diff changed. Mine is now being put away today till next year.

Read the sticky at the top of the forum for the 500/1500 and beyond servicing.
