added to what ken says, the complexity of the comparison is not a stock 1le to zle. the comparison is between a well moded (no hp mods) 1le and a relatively stock zle. e.g. kens car to my car. thats what the real world choice is....1le with moded suspension, brakes and 3rs vs. a zle.

No contest, ZLE sus is already close to optimal vs SLE and it has ~150 more whp for a ~125 lb weight penalty, albeit the weight is a larger penalty than it seems because of it's location. ZLE also has aero and the trans is geared differently. SLE would need significant and expensive power mods to keep up.

IMO the only reason to mod a SLE so far would be to save weight and avoid forced induction, I think the car would be faster vs a stock ZLE, but I'm not sure you're saving money. If you just want a faster car I'd just buy the ZLE, enjoy the warranty and much better resale value.

Nick Yoskin's SS-1LE Racecar, fully stripped, caged, and modded. 1:29.33 at NJMP Thunderbolt (you can see the lap timer in the vid) and a 1:28.x on the last lap:

My 1:29.24 in a stock-ish ZLE with stock wheels and 3Rs. I was not running Apex lighter wheels and Pirellis(lap starting at 18:54 and ending at 20:23)

All that work racing out a SS to basically match a stock-ish ZLE and I'm honestly not a great driver. Good, yes, but not great. Yoskin is a way better driver than I am. He is super fast at NJMP Lightning. I don't go so great there but it has more to do with the driver and not the car itself. He had cars on track with him which surely contributed to his time, but what you can't see in my video is that my 3Rs were severely corded at this point. The 1:29.24 that I ran was done on these tires:

From my experience, so far, this hasn't been the case. At some point, it would be fun to test this theory out, but my guess is my modded SLE is a bit better than a stock ZLE.

Cost wise, including tires, services, etc. I'm into mine for just over 60K. I'm still way under what a new ZLE what have cost.

I'm not sure Nick's video is a good representation of what the car is capable at Thunderbolt...And, while a 29 is commendable, I don't think it is all that fast there, based on what I have researched.

While I agree with your assessment of Nick's video, for reference, anything sub 30 is quick at Thunderbolt. 1:26 and under is considered elite and the cars doing that are full on spec race cars. If you look at the link you posted in the "Mod Level" column it even tells you that these are race cars running those low 1:20s. At most HPDE events around these parts, you will only see maybe 1 or 2 drivers on any given day sub 30. Your typical fast guys are 1:30-1:34

The way my car sits, a fresh set of tires and my 1:29s become high 1:27s easily. The only thing holding me back from 1:24-1:26 lap times is stripping weight from the car (passenger seat; Rear Seat delete; panels/interior/etc), and more skills (or balls because I always drive at about 80%. I keep a lot in reserve because...... payments. hahaha).

Honestly, I can't refute this argument. However, I wouldn't say 'a bit better' and more like splitting hairs. ....I could be wrong tho.
